Well I've just weighed the piggies tonight. It's been about a month since I've last done it and Sam's gone from 1219g to 1316g so he's put on almost 100g! The rest are as follows with the first weight being the one a month ago and the second the one tonight

Sandy 1091g 1098g
Sookie 908g 987g ( very pleased with that )
Athena 1028g 1027g
Pepper 1026g 1083g

Not sure whether I should monitor his weight to make sure he doesn't put any more on, he's just such a lazy pig! He lies with his head on the bowl while he's eating, he can't even be bothered to stand! Or even better if some bits of food have come out the bowl he'll eat those so he doesn't have to stretch to get the food out of the bowl. He does run around and popcorns more then any of the other pigs so I'm not worried about his mobility and he doesnt look overly fat. I just dont want to restrict the dry food with the others maintaining a steady weight incase there weight drops, especially in Sookie and Athenas case. Should I be worried about this weight gain?

It depends on how big and how old Sam is; his weight is still pretty average for a boar and nothing to worry about.

I would recommend to weigh your piggies at least every two weeks for health reasons - you can spot a slow loss of weight much earlier that way and have a record for what their normal weight should be in case they lose weight very quickly.

If you take an adult piggy off crunchies, it will only lose any extra fat, but with a normal good diet with correct amounts, he won't lose lots of weight and will return to his "ideal" body weight. On the continent it is strongly recommended not to feed any dry food at all. I only give my tribe about 1/2 handful per piggy per day and still have leftovers.

You may find Laura's thread about overfeeding in the reference section helpful.

I think it sounds like a healthy weight for an adult boar, he has a wee way to go before he joins my chunkster Sancho at the 1.5kg mark!

I Was going To Say how Old ... my Patches is 2 nd Half And He Weighs 1.5! My Chunky Bundle Of Love! :))

I normally weigh them weekly ( daily if one is poorly ) but we were on holiday two weeks then I was busy when I got back and it kind of slipped my mind. I'm not entirely sure how old Sam is as he was a rescue pig, I think he's around 18 months. Glad his weight seems average though!
