It might sound dumb, but today I saw Red sleeping. I had never seen that before. He has a favorite place in his cage when he is not in his box house, and I went over to say "Hello, guinea pig," and he was just lying there with his head down. As I watched, his eyes drooped shut and then he went to sleep, just like a baby would. He even had REM, or at least it looked like it. I wonder what guinea pigs dream about? I watched carefully to make sure he wasn't being ill (It was 10:45 a.m.), and no, he was just snoozing.

It is lovely seeing a piggie zonked out! My oldest girl matilda, goes into really deep sleeps and Ive often prodded her to make sure she is still with me! she does not take kindly to this and has nipped me for waking her! :(|)

The first time I saw Wildchild asleep, she was outside her sleeping area with legs splayed out and I immediately thought she was dead - now she sleeps in the same spot like that most of the time. A ball of fluff and love with legs xoxo

:) Just wait till he starts curling up and sleeping on you! One of the Guinea Pig's I used to have would kick in his sleep, the first time he did it we were worried he was fitting, but no he was laid down on his side running like a dog lol :))

Awww! He must be feeling very safe around you now Pat! Finley falls asleep in my arms, it is very cute! x)

aww bless i love seeing sleepy piggies!
one of my previous piggies liked to sunbath but one time i came home and he was lying on his back with his legs in the air! :{
Totally freaked me out but he was sleeping rolleyes

The little ones, and Red is still a teenager isn't he, get all tired out and try to stay awake in cuddles...but their little eyes start to close on you, then they heave themselves awake, and their eyes start to close again...I just melt when they do that.

If Red was out in the open sleeping with you nearby then he is now feeling completely secure and you have removed any problems with security from his rather unhappy beginning. He is fully redeemed. A real milestone for him, congratulations to you.

Oh that's so sweet, he must feel very safe and comfortable with you, bless him. :)

It looked like Red was doing that, his legs struck out twice. It startled me at first, but as I kept watch I realized it was myoclonus (the leg jerks you get when you are going into sleep).

Oh my goodness, that would scare the pants off of me, and NOBODy wants to see the pants off of me! I guess we just have to keep close watch until we find out what is normal for these guys.

He is fully redeemed. A real milestone for him, congratulations to you.
Oh, thank you, and I am so glad you truly understand his name. Five dollars redeemed him from a real guinea pig hell.

see if you can sneak a pigture next time drool
I'll have to move the camera back to its location beside the guinea pig cage. I know what you mean about sneaking the pigture - I missed a fabulous shot the other day of him yawning so big I could see all his teeth. I didn't run and get the camera when he fell asleep because I didn't want to wake him up!
