Hi, I just adopted my guinea pig Buddy last week. I have an appointment with the vet for next thursday just so I know he's healthy but noticed this on his fur this morning. Does anyone know whats causing it? He always bites and scratches himself abit!

it could be a number of things,eg mites, fungal infection,a bite, response to pain,an allergy.what ever it is a vet will need to diagnose and give the correct treatment.i hope your piggie feels better soon.

Thank you, is there anything I can do between now and his appointment to make it better or to make sure there isn't another one no?

:agr: With @eileen that he needs to be seen by a vet for formal diagnosis and treatment. While it's not an emergency is there any way you can get him seen sooner than next Thursday? If he's biting and scratching it's irritating him and needs treatment. It is most likely something simple to treat once the vet has, formally diagnosed the problem. Piggies are stressy creatures and the process of moving home and new surroundings can render them susceptible to these sort of problems.

Other than getting him to the vet sooner, I wouldn't recommend anything else. The vet needs to diagnose the problem. If you treat on spec it can cause further issues without a formal diagnosis.
