Today while i was cleaning out the piggies i noticed this scabby area on my young boars back leg.I have not had this problem before and wondered what people think it maybe,do you think it might be fungel?if so could it also effect his cage mate?
Also this is my first time trying to post a photo so wish me luck!8:)

It's a bit tricky to see if it's fungal (ringworm) or a bite wound scab. Before you treat I would advise a vet trip to get a confirmed diagnosis as treating with the wrong thing will not only make the length of time your piggy goes without correct treatment longer but can make the condition worse.

If you are at all unsure it's always best to consult a qualified person so they see the problem in the flesh, rather than relying on photos to self diagnose.

I have made an appointment at the vets for tommorrow, just hope they are up on their piggy care as they are not my usual vet as mine does not open at weekend!

It may be worth taking a print out of this fungal info sheet.

Also if the vet wants to use a Wood's Lamp to see if it's fungal please do say that not all piggy fungal issues show up under black light so it cannot be ruled out if it fails to fluoresce.

Good luck!

Well the vets said he has mites so they are both being treated with ivermectin. They were treated with that not that long ago so not quite sure how thats happened, how often should they be routinly done?

I'm afraid not,my partner actually took him so it s not like taking them yourself inbreeding but he said the vet took one look and said mites!
