I’ve had my guineas for a period of 5 years and nothing has ever happened to them until fudge wouldn’t open his eye. the vet isn’t open so I left it for one day thinking it would heal up a bit and maybe it was just banoffee (the other guinea) who had a fight with him. Today I woke up and first thing I did was check on him to find his eye TURNED RED with what looks like a coiled up white thing (worm? Parasite of some sort). I can’t take him to the vets until Monday (we live in a verryyyyy rural area) and I’m so concerned. I don’t mind if he has to take his eye out as long as he’s not suffering because I feel so bad. He’s living a happy life and grazes constantly. Does anyone know what to do before taking him to the vets and what it is? I hope it doesn’t go to his brain :(

Your piggy really needs to see a vet as an emergency as soon as possible!
There is no home cure, and any doctoring on spec could make things worse.

@Lalapaprika That's not a worm, it's most likely a rupture or puncture to the eyeball. He needs to see a vet now, it will be very painful.

I’m going to travel to see an emergency vets because I’m so concerned. Thanks for all the advice and hopefully the outcome will be that he won’t feel the pain anymore x

Good luck! I know they always like to need the vet at the most inappropriate times.

Eye injuries always look awful no matter the severity so fingers crossed the vet is able to treat it and get it starting to heal x

Ugh so sorry! Please let us know how things go with you and your little one. Very sorry for all the stress and worry along with your Fudge.

Thoughts for both of you.
