Hi all!

I’ve got a piggie called Pumpkin who’s been diagnosed as being prone to stones in her urinary tract and a sludgy bladder. She’s had 2 stones removed in the past 5 months (they’ve been in her private area) and I’m trying to prevent it from happening again.

I’ve modified her diet a little (I’ve seen the urinary thread on here to help me) and I’ve now got her on filtered water too as I’m in a hard water area. Her vet recommended the science selective urinary supplements which I’ve got for her but she ate one once and now won’t touch them!
I’ve crushed it up and mixed it with banana and fed it to her on a spoon which she loved of course, and today I tried with blended romaine lettuce but she wouldn’t eat it unless I put another tiny bit of banana in there too!

Is there any other way of me getting that supplement into her without adding banana? I know she can’t have banana everyday - and I don’t feed bananas regularly in any of my piggies diets. It’s a very tiny amount (no bigger than a fingertip) but I still don’t think she should be having that everyday?
Perhaps I could crush it and just mix it with water and just try syringe feeding it?

Any advice welcome! I just thought that supplement would be another good way of preventing further stones from forming and keeping her bladder in good health :)

I’m sorry to hear this.

I’m not sure how effective these kinds of supplements actually are.

Will it fully dissolve into water?
If it doesn’t then she is going to find it, and could still refuse to take it. Piggies have a huge amount of taste buds so if she doesn’t like the taste then she is going to find it.

I’m going to link in a thread which may help you in further discussion with your vet. you will see in this thread that TEAS (who uses cat and rabbit clinic in Northampton who are one of the best piggy vets in the country) has a diuretic given to stone prone piggies and has had great results.

Bladderstone - best diet quick fix

My bunny LOVES these - and she can be fussy! Such a shame your piggy doesn't like them 😣
Have you tried Johnsons4joints, or Cystease capsules? I've used the capsules before, honestly I'm not sure whether they had any benefit but might be worth a go?
I know lots of members recommend Johnsons4joints.
