Sorry I've only just seen this thread, whatever you decide for your little man it'll be for the best for him.
I've never had boys, although i know they are more complicated & carry more risk operating on their stones than with girls, but a lot of it depends firstly on the expertise, experience & skill of your vet.
Secondly on the position of the stone, i think if the stone is in the thin urethra? tube in the penis it's more risky than if the stone is situated in the bladder itself, if its already in the narrow pipes is there any way that it can be broken down if its large & flushed in tiny pieces through?
When my grace was about 5yrs old she had a bladder stone, it was right near her genital opening & they wondered if they could break it down to remove it a bit easier (i think they meant laser it?), she ended up having it cut/operated on to remove it, but just a thought to suggest as an option?
hopefully its in the bladder away from his pipework, so it can be operated on easily if that's what you decide? i think i've read that vets tie off the opening so that the stone doesn't get into the delicate urethral pipe & block it anyway?
Only you can make the decision for him as you know him & his limits best, we can just help to support you in whatever you decide
good luck & thinking of you both at this difficult time, love the girls & I.x
