We lost our oldest guinea Scruffy yesterday at the age of 31/2. I guess thats getting on in guinea years. Vet said he was an older boy by his standards. He lost his girlfriend Silver in July and never really recovered from the loss. He lost loads of weight but was still eating and drinking normally. We took him to the vets thinking something was wrong but the vet said all his vitals were fine. We gave him some recovery food and his weight went back up. Vet said we could take him off the food but within 7 days he had lost 100 grams. I found him limp in the morning of 7th February. He was still with us but hanging on to life. I held him in my arms as his life slowly ebbed away. We took him to the vets to see if there was anything that could be done for him. We said our goodbyes as the vets kept him warm and comfortable. He perked up a bit but was so cold he couldn't read on the thermometer. He perked up so much he was pulling at the towel we had put in his cage with him. He passed away at 11am. We will never really know what killed him but we know he fought for 4 hours to stay with us but he wasn't strong enough in the end. Vet seemed to think it was liver or kidney failure and that we had done all we could for him. The comfort we get from our loss is knowing that he is back with his girlfriend at rainbow bridge and we will see them both again some day. RIP our little soldier. We will love you always x
