This evening, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my rabbit to sleep. She seemed fine this morning, taking her treat and hopping away. Sadly, she went into gut stasis while I was at work. She hung on until I got home, rushed her to the emergency vet, but it was decided ultimately the kindest thing to do was put her to sleep. She was very recently diagnosed with aggressive cancer which had unfortunately spread into her stomach and lungs, I could do no more except give her this final gift.

Chappy’s been by my side for 7 years (at the time, I named her after an rabbit from an anime and was blissfully unaware that it also was a brand of dog food!) and I’m so glad at the end of her life, I was able to convert her into a free roam rabbit. She had the time of her life charging around my living room, learning to climb the stairs and attacking the brush every time I dared approach her with it! She was such a diva - or as I liked to call her, my little tsundere (forever growling, but leaning into love and scratches) but I loved her with all my heart.

My heart is dreadfully broken, I will miss her terribly. Hop on free over the rainbow bridge, Chappy - where you can find all the endless munching sticks, nibblots and pellets you want. I’ll miss you.
