Hey everyone,
So about 2 weeks ago Oskar had stopped eating/Eating slowly and carefully. Now, in the past, 2 of Oskar's teeth chipped (1 from the top, about 2 mm came off, and 1 from the bottum, almost the whole tooth chipped off) and they had to get clipped to the 2 teeth would meet together and not go in different directions. Anyway, we sort of knew that it was a tooth problem and we looked at his teeth, and saw that they were sort of chipped slightly and like not straight at all. Obviously we took him to the vets and they said it was very serious. If we hadn't had took him to the vets, his tongue would have probably have gotten stuck, he would dehydrate and die (TERRIFYING). I wasn't there, my dad took him because I had to go to school (My dad did oddly come back just before i left) and i was very, very worried when i saw my dad getting out of the car with no Oskar. I was just like "PLEASE DON*T SAY THEY PUT HIM TO SLEEP" (Obviously i didnt have a lot of knowledge about guinea pig teeth). And so my dad said He was under anaesthetic and the vets had to grind down the front teeth and even the back teeth. At 4 o clock we went back to collect him and he looked like he had been on a roundabout for an hour.. He was all quiet, almost not moving. However when he did move he was all like DRUNK in a way, haha, it was actually quite funny. And so yeah, the vets said we should give him hard food so his teeth are kept warn down. She said it would take 24 hours for him to recover but he still didnt eat after that. It took him about 2 days more until he started eating. He was only eating the parsley and maybe a bit of lettuce. Now, he is eating all his food, except for his carrot, cucumber and sometimes baby sweetcorn, and nuggets. This is very worrying as these are the hard foods we give him. So just to check, we looked at his teeth. He is acting totally normal, jumping around, running ect. However, i noticed one tooth on each side (bottom and top) were a little chipped. Like 1-1.5 mm. We had been weighing him, at first he was 1.28. And now he is 1.18! Hes eating everything except as metioned sweetcorn, nuggets, carrot and cucumber?! I dont know if this is normal, though. Just in case, we added extra wooden toys that he could gnaw his teeth on, not sure if it has worked. Should i be worried that his teeth have chipped off a little bit, or will they grow back normally?

Grass is very abrasive and good for helping keep teeth good. Will your piggy eat grass? Do you have to take your piggy back to the vet for a check up? The teeth grow very quickly and it generally takes more than one dental to get them anywhere near right and in some cases the piggy can be left with ongoing dental issues, that will need regular work doing on them. Hay and grass are definitely the best things for them to eat. They don't need to eat many nuggets at all. Do the front teeth look ok now? They can struggle biting on things if the front teeth have been taken too short.

In answer to your question, they havent eating any grass this year, only hay. But we will soon be taking them out outside in the run. Yes, we do have to take him back to the vets, i think in 3 weeks time. We are worried that we will get this ongoing dental issue, the vet also set this might have to be every month. My dad said that it might not be possible to keep taking him as it costs a lot of money. We need to start saving up as my brother is starting Gymnasium and it costs 150,000 kr (Around 16500 in pounds) every year and he willl be there for two years. And on top of that we have to pay a lot of money for this horse i ride. We are worried we will have to take a tough decision.. His front teeth look a little worse. Maybe 1 mm more has chipped off/the other one is 1 mm to long. And he is stuggling a bit with eating, his favorite food is tomato, and he is not eating it, probably because he can't even bite into it. Should i will be worried that his teeth are a little long/sorter than the other?
