Ok. Have an appointment tomorrow to go look at (60!) guinea pigs so I’m sure I will be homing home with 2 from the rescue tomorrow.
I’ve set the cage upas the lady needs to see what we’ve got here.
It’ll be 2 boars.
what have I missed? I have time to shop!

To add. We also have an outdoor run and they will be having full use of the conservatory or hallway for floor time. (Depending whether it is a hot day or not)

It looks good! Definitely increase the size of the cage though as a 2x4 can be too small for boars.
I’d put the food bowls at opposite ends of the cage, at least one body length apart in any event. I don’t actually use bowls for my two boys - I scatter feed veg and pellets as it then encourages a more natural foraging behaviour which can also help to keep them entertained and means that nobody can hog bowls

The only other thing I’d say is that enclosed hideys (ie only one exit) can sometimes be a problem for boars (not all, but some) as it can mean a piggy can be cornered and it creates pinch points for coming in and out. Now, it won’t cause a problem for all piggies, but it is something to bear in mind.

I’d also add another hay area so you have two, and more hay - be it in a litter tray or hay bag or whatever.
Thank you! There is actually hay in a litter tray in a corner. Don’t think it can be seen in the picture.

I’ll get the tools out and create more holes in the hiding spots.

yes, cage will be getting bigger. 😊 this was originally a 3x2, set it up and realised too small so adapted to make bigger. Some grids will be winging their way to me shortly!

There is also hay in all the hiding spots. I bought some wool
Looking stuff from the pet shop, but looking online I’m not sure if it’s safe?

They sold it saying it was safe for hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs etc!

Sadly that is true for a lot of commercial products but it’s really not! They can get caught in it, all sorts of nasty accidents can occur from being tangled in it

Any idea what else it can be used for? Or is it just for for the bin?

Not for use with animals. Perhaps as a craft item if you’ve got children - dabbing paints, use it to grow cress on.
Have you opened it, got the receipt etc? Could you return it (not sure if shops will take returns with the virus happening). If not, I’d bin it

A lot of pet shop employees are unfortunately untrained in pet care and are just there to make a sale, whether or not it's safe for the intended animal. Time and time again I have seen all types of rodents get their limbs and teeth caught in cotton/wool; it's never pretty. Your piggies definitely don't need anything to snuggle in, and there are much safer options for smaller rodents that do.

Otherwise, great set up! I love the picket fence! :)

Looks good to me. The only thing I might add would be soft hidies, eg fleece 'cuddle cups' or tunnels.
What is the wool stuff you mentioned? Can you post a picture of it/ the packet it's in?

The fence was to sway my husband to a c&c cage 😂.

They were paired up at the rescue so hoping they continue to be buddies. The lady was awesome. I’m to take the back in a few weeks for her to work them and she has a lifetime advice guarantee!

They are gorgeous! You can’t really tell until they get past their teens but more boar pairs make it together than not, so hopefully all will be well!

What do you mean for her to work them?

Give them a few days/week to settle in with only feeding them and spot cleaning their cage. It can help them to cover part of their cage with a blanket to help them feel more secure.

you could make a little bed for them to sleep on and use the cotton bedding as stuffing?

It’s not washable though so the bed would have to be thrown away after a couple of uses
hm, well i guess it’s still better than just throwing it away, since the fabric could be used again?

I've never seen that wool stuff before. I don't think it would be very comfortable for them, getting caught in their hair and nails and stuck to food, whether or not it is bad for them health wise.
One fleecy tunnel is good, more fleecy things would be even better, especially with boars. My piggies all love their beds and snuggle sacks
