kingboris..I'm 99% sure its not cocci....if you read my post up there¨¨ somewhere..we've just beaten cocci here so i know what to look out for and not one piggy looked like she did....? plus she doesnt have the yellowy diarhea (sp) and is not listless/unactive/uninterested in food (symptoms)
she has hard dark poops which are about a quarter of the size of normal piggy poops (if that helps anyone diagnose something I'm missing?)

thats the best news then, hopefully she can gain some condition soon, I'm sure she will with tlc xx

they havent got any(!) so will have to buy a new battery tomorrow...

is it ok then to offer her a bit of veg or stick with dried food/hay for now

Hi - just logged on and seen this thread - poor little mite!

Ok - food little and often as already advised, no veg just yet as you need to get her gut working properly first. Low protein/oil food first day - slowly add higher value food over next week until on higher protein/oil - 17% protein/4% oil.

Make sure she's getting plenty of water - the poo is small because of dehydration - if they couldn't be bothered to feed her I don't suppose the water bottle was filled regularly either.

If you have probiotic then give it too - her gut may need a bit of support with this onrush of food.

As much hay as she likes, timothy if poss.

Oh and lots of cuddles from me!

Oh poor little thing, she does look awful. I agree fully with Suzy, no veg yet at all, it will very likely upset her tummy and just provide another hill to climb. A Vit C supplement is something to consider given the state of the poor thing, do syringe-feed as well even though she is eating well - 20ml 2x daily will help to boost her weight. I add bran to the syringe-feeds, helps about as much as oats.

Weigh daily too, it will prove useful and important. Please do keep us updated. xx

I'm feeding up a tiny skinny mum here and I have been advised to give critical care mixed with complan and water. That's what I am doing.

I gave too many veg and she got the runs so would agree and say none for a few days which you get her working properly.

The critical care and complan mix seems to be doing the trick and makes a nice consistency, however I would get her guts working properly and her pooping properly before getting that down her.

Poor lass. :(

Poor guinea-pig :( At least she's being well cared for now. I agree with what others have said about not feeding her veggies too soon, but when you do give her veggies, I was told by my vet that plain corn is good for gaining weight in guinea-pigs.

Those pictures are truly shocking, why do people let their "pets" get into such a state before doing anything about it grrrr

I really hope she's been brought back to you in time for you to make a difference x

OMG the poor little thing

its heart breaking how idiotic and cruel people can be!

this site has certainly opened my eyes! thank goodness theres good people like yourself to restore my faith in the human race

huge vibes and good luck

keep us posted plz x

sorry its not better news but ive just been down to feed piggys and little piggy hasnt made it through the night. i think the lack of weight and sudden change in temp (was very cold here last night) was just too much for her. she was lively on friday but yesterday a bit sluggish and hiding, it seems there was more going on with her than originally thought
i was at her owners place friday evening to see what had happened. the other piggy is alive, well and very chubby. they noticed the other piggy started losing weight but due to a new baby/school holidays and dad losing his job, they just couldnt afford vet bills right now, so they brought her to me. sadly just too late (literally, if theyd brought her an hour earlier my man could have dropped us off at he vet before work, and maybe we could have seen what else was going on with her)
they dont want to bring the other piggy back as the kids are too attached (and upset at already losing one) but I'm reluctant to hand over another as they dont have the money to support a pet (in my eyes)
but we've agreed, i can check up on piggy anytime i like :)
I'm just a bit sad at the idea of the other living on her own now..not sure what to do....?
.

That's sad news indeed, I really hoped she'd make it. I agree about not letting them have more just now, perhaps if you monitor things for a while you can come to a decision then. The family may realise the other piggy is better off with you or their circumstances may improve and are more capable of caring for two once again.

Thank you for trying so hard with this little girl. I know it's heartbreaking when it's not enough.

I'm sorry she didn't make it, poor little thing, you did everything you could for her. :(

At least she was comfortable and safe with you. I think you've done the best you can regards the other pig, maybe just make it clear if that pig needs to see a vet at any stage then they must return piggie to you - not just for treatment, but for good. They have to understand that letting a pig get into the state their other pig got into is unacceptable, better for the pigs sake to be somewhere that can attend to the needs without delay.

awwwwww poor baby, really hope it didnt suffer much. Maybe other pig could stay at yours and the children could visit it? Just a suggestion. I need to stop reading these posts I'm finding myself bawling all the time, i look about 50 with all the crying i have being doing recently.

:0

aaw how sad. what idiots let their pets get in that state fair does they might not have any money but that doesnt stop you taking action and being so selfish. makes me mad. RIP piggy x

I am so so sorry she didnt make it, i have just read your posts and I have tears rolling down my face, you done your best for her......maybe because she was just to thin she couldnt stay warm.

Run free little piggy x
