Hi I have two little piggies, Charlotte (4 months) and Gisele (7 months). When I woke up this morning and went to feed them Gisele stood still in the corner, shaking (not a normal rumble shake) and crying out in pain. She wouldn't eat her morning vitamin C treat and continued crying while i got ready. I immediately rushed her to the vet, they watched her for a couple hours, but they said she acted completely normal. This afternoon she continued to sit in the corner and tremble. I feel helpless she cant tell me whats wrong. Has anyone had this happen before? I have read stories but they all involve seizures and this definitely isnt one. I'm thinking a potential bladder stone because she drinks 4 ounces of water a day, but I'm not a vet. I'm a new guinea pig owner who is scared to death her baby might be in pain please help!

p.s. right now she sits in my lap sleeping, no crying, no shaking. Charlotte knows something is wrong too, she never leaves Gisele's side

I'm very sorry that your piggy is showing signs of distress. Was the vet-ahem- cavy savy? Many vets aren't great at diagnosing illnesses etc in guinea pigs so it could be that the vet misses it. Has she lost any weight? Teeth okay? Any wounds on her exterior? Stomach hard? I would definitely try another vet if you can or return and explain it's happening again- perhaps a video of her shaking would help the vet understand?

I would suggest trying a different vet too. She may have been so scared at the vet that she was hiding her pain. They need to give her a good physical exam and then move onto x-rays etc if they can find a cause.

I agree - it is very likely that she she has been hiding her symptoms when out of her comfort zone; that is not uncommon in prey animals. Can you take a little video to show your vets as proof of what is going on. I have started doing this when I notice something not right but that can stop at any time.

I think I am going to go to another vet. I just know this isn't right. She ate this morning, which I'm happy about, but you know an owner knows when something is wrong. The vet is an exotic vet and she seems really nice, I might ask her to do an X-ray just to make sure it isn't bladders stones. I live close to a Vet school and I know they have the best care in our state so I might also go there if it continues. She is my emotional support animal and I'm so grateful my Dad said he was willing to do anything to help her. I do have some pain reliever (that the vet gave me) and I plan to give that to her if it gets worse. She did not do the shaking thing this morning, but I will try to get a video asap. Thank you all so much for your help.

Keeping on top of her pain with pain relief is a good idea, it she's had it before without any issues then it shouldn't cause her any harm and can only help.

Hope she sees the vet soon and you get some answers xx

Best of luck at the vet's I hope you get some helpful advice.

What a lovely emotional support animals can be. I value all my animals so much. Great that your dad is happy to support her and therefore you.
