Well I dont really do anything special, but I give Bimbi a hand full of cut of carrots (he loooooves his carrots!) and some lettuce, and today I gave him a small piece of celery, about an inch long, with peanut butter on it. And he had his hay blocky thingy, (its just a square block with a bunch of the timothy (is it timothy? lol) hay packed into it) and his pellets. I make sure Bimbis bowl is over flowing with pellets, so he can dig in. ;D

I hava a chubby little piggy. :D

Mine love basil but they also get corridander, parsley, carrot, sweet potato, celery, salad, apple, cucumber, melon, broccoli, califlower, cabbage and sometimes banana ;D

Oh cool! Bimbi doesnt like bananas but ohmagosh you should see him tackle an apple!

You shouldn't be giving him peanut butter, peanuts are too high in fat & may cause choking - the celery on its own is just fine

Niki :)

I try and give mine a big variety. Today they had some curly kale, carrot, cucumber and parsley. They also have spring greens, celery, pepper, cauliflower, cabbage and brocalli. They love dandelions so I try and get them some once a week. Mine also love tomatoes, beetroot, apple and banana but have these are at most once a week as a treat. The tomotoes, beetroot and banana is because they make a real mess with it ( ::)) and apple because I know it can give mouth sores so I restrict it a bit.

I only put a little on, and its once in a while. Just a little treat. :) (peanut butter, I mean)

I know it's personal choice & i'm not preaching at you :) but i still think he'd be just fine without the peanut butter

Oh, its ok. ^^ Ive read a lot of your posts anyways, you sound like you know more than me about guinea pigs so I trust your advice. :)

I would agree with Niki. A guinea pigs digestive system isnt designed to cope with things like peanut butter. You want lots of nice long hay, lots of fresh veggies and a few pellets and you will be on the right track 8)

Noted on the peanut butter, but what is a safe treat to give a piggy once a week or so?

Is there anything that is not a fruit / veg or dry pellet that can be fed occasionally and not cause harm?

why though?

I mean, if the piggy is fine with veg as a treat, then why is a non veg treat necessary?

Its a bit like, back then, people thinking the ultimate treat for horses is sugar (I wonder what their theeth were like back then), or people letting the dog have normal sausage (which is way too spicy)...

If you really have to give them anything like that, usually they quite like these yoghurt drops...

they arent that good for them though.
the occasional one wont do no harm I suppose, but really they are unnecessary.

Mine prefer fresh juicy cucumber to anything else as a treat.

spend the money on something else, like a nice house for the piggies, or some brokkoli. they will thank you more for that.
all those "snacks" that are sold in petshops might look nice - but really they are just a waste of money, money you could have spent better for other stuff.
