We just took in our new baby ahou a week ago, so Adaline makes 3! :luv: She’s doing great and settling in, even taking some veggies from my hand. But I received an email from a high kill shelter we adopted our cat from that they received 3 piggy sisters in today. They don’t have the room in the shelter or a cage for them. My heart hurts so much. I see our 2nd extra cage in the closet and it just makes me want to go scoop them up, especially knowing the fate of those girls if they don’t get adopted soon. :bye: Would I be considered a crazy piggy lady if I adopted 3 more so soon? :D:eek: I just want to rescue all the piggies!

It's hard when we see piggies (well any animal) in that situation and I'd be tempted to do the same. It's horrible because if they're saved eventually more piggies will be in the same situation :( I don't think you'd be called crazy just a caring piggy owner! Just bare in mind that three more pigs =3 more vet bills etc and be sure that it's alright with you. X

We are definitely equipped for double the vet bills fortunately. It just breaks my heart. They sent pictures in the email and they look like such sweet girls. I wish people thought more before getting 1 animal much less 3. :mal:

You have the money, you have the cage (sorry to ask this but is it big enough for 3?) these are all positive. Do you have the time for 3 more pigs? If the answer to all these is yes then think hard about it again, discuss it then if the answer is still yes then go for it if that is what you really really feel it is what you want to do. Remember it could be a 6-8 year commitment. Then when this shelter contacts you again with more cute piggies as they will cos you have taken these girls in, you'll have to be tough with yourself and say no more. Sorry to be harsh but I have 5 and it is a lot more work than 2. I'd love more but 5 is my limit. I planned for 2 and ended up with a surprise shop litter which is how I ended up with 5.

I wish you luck in your decision. Let us all know x

Oh you weren’t being harsh! It’s a huge commitment and I would rather people who care so much about piggies to give me “tough love” than to not care! I didn’t do one of those Introduce Yourself threads so just a small quick background of my time with piggies. When I was living at home throughout high school and some of college we had a heard of 5 and then a separate cage with 2 (our Darcy was really picky and only bonded with 1 piggy). Well when I finally moved out my mother asked if I would take them since my other siblings didn’t much pay attention to them. So I moved out with our 7 Guinea Pigs, my 2 hamsters and my chinchilla. My OH probably thought I was nuts in the beginning! :yahoo: The herd slowly started passing away (the youngest was 3 when I moved out) as they got older. Once everyone was gone I wanted a break from losing our babies. We adopted our cat and dog. Still have our chinchilla. In April on vacation I fell in love with Nora and Sylvia on a vacation and the rest is history. Sorry this is so long I just wanted everyone to know that I’ve had experience with many Guinea Pigs! Our 2nd cage is the cubes for a 2x5 C&C cage, would just need coroplast and probably some more grids since it’s 3. Luckily we live a few miles from Home Depot and they carry it. I would be hoping to introduce everyone and they all get along eventually. My heart just hates that they are there and how sweet they look. :bye: I need to unsubscribe from their emailing list.
