I joined in 2013 with 3 guinea pigs, Jacky, her daughter Pip and a neutered boar, Basil.

A few years later I got two lovely sows from a rescue, Mistletoe and Jingle. I later introduced a neutered boar, Cufflinks, 2 young sows, Rosie and Cherry blossom and 2 older sows, Tani and Primrose. A beautiful and fascinating herd. Introductions were done slowly over time.

I have moved house since then (downsized) and I am collecting a pair of second hand sows from an online advert quite local to me. They are just over a year old and their advert pics look really sweet!

I love agouti as well piggieminder. My first ever guinea pig, little cobby cavy, was a silver agouti and my second ever guinea pig was a golden agouti called Whiskey (whisky weasel whiskers). Whiskey had a creamy orange belly so was a kind of mix of the two new girls' colours!

I have been putting their cage together today and have started dressing it ready for habitation!

Congratulations, I bet Thursday can't come soon enough!

May I ask, once you've used the cage for a bit could you let us know how easy or not it is to use? (Can you reach everywhere, is it easy to get hold of the guineas no matter where they are, how easy is it to clean etc) Asking so when I'm ready to get my first ever guineas your experience will help me in choosing a cage as I'll need one like that.

I have it on a stand bought separately but for a 160cm x 80cm cage which this one is.

The top opens right up so if you had the cage low down you could access it that way.

Wonderfully it has two large opening doors on on of the long sides.

They open upwards and stay open without needing to be held open.

I can get my shoulders in which you need to do in order to reach the back corner.

I will let you know how easy it is to access the guinea pigs from the door. Not that I am planning to catch them.

I will work slowly and let then gradually get used to my hand as a food bringer and when I do need to get them out and about I hope to coax them into a tunnel.

Will update once they are here!

Thank you, sounds ideal so far.

Welcome Shimmer (golden agouti) and Saffron ( creamy orange).

They hid in their hay as soon as I lifted them into their carrier.

Once home I checked that they were both sows, yes. Kissed then, stroked their ears and told them how lovely they are.

I lowered them into their hay trays and they hid.

Saffron was still pretty visible, Shimmer not so much.

I love them!

I have to resist going over to the cage every five seconds for a chat! I have chatted to them a bit. Saffron has white fur on one of her back legs (I saw this as I chased her round the cage at the breeder's house). She also has some orange patches. Saffron is all over creamy orange. They both have dark ears. Guinea pigs ears ... sigh.

Saffron is easy to see because she doesn't hide. She isn't brave yet but I have taken a couple of pics.

This morning Shimmer was under the ikea doll's bed and Saffron was in one of the hay trays.
