I used to feed my guinea-pigs burgess excel pellets, but they were more difficult for me to get, so I've tried to change them onto Wagg Optimum instead. I started mixing the new food in with the burgess excel, and on the first day they ate everything, on the second day they ate all the wagg optimum but left the burgess excel, and every day I've been increasing the new food and decreasing the burgess excel, but now they seem to eat all the burgess excel and leave most of the wagg optimum. Does this mean they don't like it? Or should I just give them more time to get used to it? I've only been giving it to them for 5 days, but because they seem to be eating less of the wagg optimum I wasn't sure if they like it or not.

It is not unusual that piggies like the new taste at first, but then prefer the old one.

You can either go back to Burgess or stick it out with the Wagg. It took me once three weeks to get a Gertie's addict grudgingly moved over to pellets.

How long should I keep trying the wagg optimum with them? I don't want to give them a food they really don't like but I don't know how to tell if they like it or not.

Like you i am trying wagg optimum and am worried because compared to the excell it is little granules. Will this cause any problems.

How about putting a bowl of each in and seeing which one gets eaten most?

:)) same here. well, bella seems to like the wagg and pepper prefers the excel. Luigi will eat anything:))

I have tried that, and they ate all the burgess and most of the wagg, so I don't know what to do. I don't want to keep changing what they eat, but I can only get burgess excel in very small bags here because the pet shop I get it from makes up their own bags of it, and they are really small bags which last about 4 days and they cost £6 so buying lots of it is expensive and the food never lasts very long.
