My two pigs have been separtated for around a year or so know, and Pippin(didn't start the fights) seems to be getting a little down. And I was thinking maybe he needs a friend. They were rescues, and Merry is around 9, an Pippin 6 or 7. I read in Peter Gurney's book that a boar should accept a baby boar in easily, as long as the baby has somewhere to hide. I have a third run, and two hutches, but could set up for a third if I needed to, any advice on the matter. I'm really on the fence on the matter. ?

Okay well neutering is out, so yes the next best option would be a baby boar if you can do it....

Obviously negative side says that if they fall out in a few months when the baby hits teen, you are going to need another cage etc etc, but it will be harder to introduce an older boar, and may just never happen...

If I were you I would contact a rescue, explain your situation and ask if they would agree that you are able to bring him back if anything goes wrong.

I would take your boar with you to let him choose a new friend, as their personalities have to match.

Although, he would be okay on his own with lots of attention from you....or you could house them next to eachother (if you still have merry) so they can still get comfort from eachother, or you can try and rebond them, as a veeeeery long shot you could try and look for a neutered sow.....

You know your piggies, so just do what you feel best O0

I would get another there are lots of options if it doesn't work out but I am sure it will. Like perfectpiggies says there is always a spade sow option and you could take your piggy to a rescue tochose his perfect partner and ask them if you can return him if it doesnt work out.

Well we've sorta fell out with our rescue. As they are rescued pigs. They gave us two un-neutered boars, which they claimed were 12 months old and brothers (they were alot older & different breeds) which had mites, and didn't really ask us if we were thinking of more pigs in the further. We had agreed to meet half way, them bringing a couple of paired pigs so we could choose who suited us best, and they just brought us one pair, handed them to us and drove away. 98)

We could try with a GP only rescue I spose, but they all sound like good ideas. After a long(near a year) of trying to reintroduce them I don't think it's working. They won't fight when I watch, but the instance I turn away I just here really aggressive teeth going. :'(

Please don't let your bad experience put you off a rescue, most reputable rescues are a mine of information and incredibly helpful, there are so many gorgeous little piggies that need homes. Have you a different one you can go to, or one further afield perhaps?

I have a rescue, where abouts are you? Doesnt say on your prof, I might be able to help or know someone that does O0

I'm around gloucester. We've always had rescue animals, but I think next time we will be going to the center, instead of meeting half way! I shall see what the rents have to say on the matter.

Most rescues will not meet half way, you will have to come and see the piggy in person, and have a homecheck too O0
