Connie has been on Septrin now for a week this evening. The vet told me to give it to her twice daily for 7 days but I have noticed that she is still squeaking a little (not as much as she was) and I have read guinea pigs should be on it for longer. I have noticed that there is still quite a bit left in the bottle so should I just keep on giving it to her until it runs out? I imagine it should last for up to another 7 days. It's just that she has only just got over an infection a month ago until this one came. The last time, she was on Baytril for week but the infection must have came back and I don't want it happening again so soon. Would it be dangerous to carry on giving her the Seprin without consulting my vet? I just get the feeling that they would just say to stop the treatment and see how she gets on x

Give for another week Claire, or as long as the amount in the bottle lasts. Explain to the vet that Connie still has symptoms but is much improved, and they should give you their consent to go with it for another week. Most pigs are on it for 10-14 days, and it really needs to be given until all symptoms have cleared up for a few days to prevent a recurrance of the same infection.
