Hi well i realise it is now cooler outside and i am sitting with a fleece cardi on and a fleece rug on my knee and i am warm enough and don;t feel the need to put the heating on but a bit worried the girlies are cold? Is that daft?

when piggies are too cold, they usually hide and don't move... If yours are still carrying on as normal, then no, save your money!

nope they are fine and normal (apart from furby sulking as she did not get a sherbet lemon)

Has anyone else succumbed to putting the heating on!

My piggies stay inside and it's nice and warm, I just give them tons of hay to hide in and eat away at (they love hay)

the girls are inside in the lounge with me, just don't want them getting cold! not sure how warm or cold it is as i am know to sit with a fleecey rug on my lap in june and july!

Hey, I have the same worry, Africa doesn't do anything lately and I'm worried if it's just because he's lonely because Leo dying or maybe the weather/coldness is starting to get too much, heating this place is so expencive and I haven't the money (YET) to buy him a fleese bed so atm he's in a plastic igloo with lots of hay. He feels warm when I hold him.

Think i will have to buy a thermometer at the weekend so i can know what the temperature is inside the flat... I did put the electric blanket on my bed to warm it up last night as had not human bed warmer to do it for me!

I want one, I just use two duvets, I just turned on the raditator in this room (office) and brought the guinea pig in and closed the door so this room will stay hot all night hopefully and he'll be happy. It's meant to be the animal room anyways but in the summer gets infested with flies for some reason so they weremoved out. Could you do that? Warm one room up only? Depending on if moneys a problem like me.

If your piggies are inside, they'll be fine! :-) Remember that they have a furry coat on (unless you're talking about a skinny pig which I can't really comment on as I've never had one) so if you're fine with a jumper/fleece on then they'll be fine with a fur coat on! Like MrsM pointed out - if they are all still and hunched up and possible shivering a bit, then yes stick your heating on but if not then don't worry.

Try feeling their ears and pads of their feet - if they're much colder than your fingers then they might be a bit cool. But having said that, my Mums piggies live in a shed up the garden and even though some of their ears are cold, their little bodies are nice and warm so I know they're fine.

If your piggy is acting strangely then it's time to be worried but indoor piggies are usually fine in the cooler weather. Mums pigs got through negative degrees in the shed last year (although we did have lots of insulation, lots of hay etc and a portable heater up there to make sure it wasn't too cold)
