Should I still quarantine?

Hi All,

As some of you know I am getting 2 young guinea pigs from Helen on Wednesday to live in a large hutch with my two older Sows Flora and Fleur who are 8/9 months old. But I was unsure if I should still quarantine them? They have been with Helen for a few weeks so surely any illnesses would have showed by now?

I plan on putting the girls in a large indoor hutch and Pudsey and Eccles can live in C&C 4x2 minimum or as bit as I can get it! If I do have to quarantine I can put the wee girls next to Flora and Fleur in a 4x2 but ideally would just like to get them all together straight away.

I need to scrub the hutch and get rid of the bachelor boys smell and make it smelling of roses for the girls which is why I'm trying to pre plan.

This is a really good points Louise. I will be interested to here what responses you get to this question.

When i got Honey from Niki i put her straight in with Trinny and Susannah as i trusted that nothing would be wrong with her coming from Niki.

Also when i got Romey she had come from Graham and then spent three weeks at Wandas so again i trusted she would be ok to go straight in with Murphy.

I'm thinking it should be ok as Helen will have checked the girls and they have been with her a while so i would say ok. But interested to know what others think.

Obviously if i were to get a piggy from a person/shelter i did not trust/know anything about i would quarantine.

I saw your girls yesterday Louise - they are stunning!

I picked up Zack and Tinkerbell yesterday from Graham and as they have been with him for many weeks I haven't quarantined them. I have always done the same really - if they are long standing rescue pigs with no sign of problems I intro straight away otherwise its 3 weeks minimum quarantine in a seperate room with change of clothes etc between handling new and exisiting pigs.

I think it would be ok with the girls as they have come from a rescue and Helen has updated us all with their progress.

Kate, hope Zack and Tinkerbell are settling in ok.
