hello,
as you may or may not know we are about to get 2 piggys from a rescue,
i also need a third piggy to befriend Basil due to him being rejected by the other piggies, well today i was scanning the local paper and found a girl who is selling 3 GP's one boar and 2 sows.
She got a sow from a petshop and as the usual case is found out she was pregnant, she sounds like a good piggy mum but physically won't keep the babies any longer so is selling them at 5 weeks old!yes i know its young but she won't budge on it as she didn't expect or want babies,i have organised to meet with her tomorrow and see the boar(i only have boars so i can't keep sows) she said if i don't take the piggy she will rehome it to the next person that comes along, she has already sold one piggy 2 weeks ago at three weeks old i really do have to get a new piggy for Basil anyway so should i get this boy to stop him being sold to a bad home?

Yes. You're not buying from a shop, and you're preventing the pig going to a bad home. It's rehoming a pig in need. Go for it, good luck!

thankyou thats what i thought, just thought i would check as i don't want to support anything bad but Basil really needs a friend i spoke to the rescue lady and she has put off our meeting by another week,i just don't know how long she will take to come through and don't want to leave basil alone in the meantime

yes, yes, yes, you have to go for it.... We got little Frank at 5 weeks and he's just fine... Finlay was 3 1/2 weeks old and was a little more needy but they're both fine now... Can you not take Basil along, just to see if they'll get along? Chances are, he'll feel a responsibility for the new baby and this should calm him down...

Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks i think Basil will love him,Basil's a very shy boar and is only just under 3 months old,he is the one that my bossy piggies pick on,so i don't think i would have a problem x

I would, rescues are rare in your neck of the woods and this isn't buying from a shop. I've had pigs from 5 weeks and they were fine. :)

ooooooooh, can't wait for pigtures...:)

now that i have had the confirmation that i need I'm going to go get this little boy,i will deifinantly sex all 3 if i can before i just bring him home though, you can never be to sure what they are,I'm quite confident of what bits are what so fingers crossed she sexed them correctly, she also seperated the boy just under 2 weeks:o because she wasnt sure what age he could get the others pregnant,i hope he is ok since he only had his mum less than 2 weeks x
forgot to add will post pigtures and photo's of his bits before i put him with Basil just to make sure,i really don't want to risk it

I've had my boar from 3 weeks (separated from his mommy) and he's just fine (a rescue from a pet store rolleyes )!

Good luck - can't wait to see pics!! :(|)

Hi all i went and picked up the piggy.
Well big shock for me not what i expected at all,i nearly screamed at this woman but i had to biute my tonguegrrrr.
She was at like a farmers show and i had to walk past hundreds of chickens that had no food or water just to get to her car, thats when she opened her boot or trunk where she had Guinea pigs and rabbits in there:o:ogrrrrgrrrr.
She had my boy housed with rabbits, and the girls in a box that didnt even have any ventilation,i quizzed her on this and she said they were fine on a 40 min trip in the boot to get home!!and that rabbits and piggies were fine together, she didnt even ask how i plan to care for the new piggy she just said i want $8 for him.
She also did confirm the mummy sow was definantly pregnant before she got her,but went on to say she probably would have bred them anyway because her 4 year old boy wanted babies!
and then to top it all off she told me that a few years ago she was a guinea pig breeder!she also told me the piggie was cream and white and part aby, well he has got to be the most beautiful lilac and white, mostly aby i have ever seen,he has at least 6 rosettes so he can't be to far off pure i wouldn't think, this is just not what i expected and i thought Basil was small, well this little guy is tiny,
This lady was at this farmers market thing all day and after i broght the piggy she opened the boot directly eposing piggies and rabbit to direct sunlight and then went inside.8...
i just feel like such an idiot that i didnt offer to take the sows right then and there, instead they got a warm boot ride home and who knows if they are ok or not,i should have taken them too,i was to worried about how so many boars here would react to sows in the same room, and i don't really have any other rooms to keep piggies.
i feel so dumb like i should go back and get them but i can't stop her,she is not currently a breeder for piggies but she told me she breeds rabbits i just feel like she tricked me and that those poor animals may be in trouble.
thankyou for listening to my rant the photo gallery will have pigtures of my new boy and Basils meeting;) xxxxxxxxx

Some people do not deserve to be anywhere near animals, that woman is one of them! She was even betraying the most common sense rules! Crikey, I would have grabbed all the animals then gave her a good rollicking, wouldn't have been able to bite my tongue!

Looking forward to the photos, I hope the boys get on. At least you saved this one piggie from the situation, don't feel too bad about the others - you have to think of your own animals as well as the ones you want to rescue, and if something is going to affect the lives of the others then you have to consider if it's really fair on your current gang.

Well you did the right thing love, you've saved one poor little one from that person :x
Trouble is you can't rescue everyone of them.....and there's no way that old bag would've listened to you, sounds like she's a right so and so :p

So glad you got the boar! (does he have a name?) and i would feel the same.. i want to rescue them all, but you just cant unfortunately 8...
I cant believe some people! that really angers me.. :( if i start to say what i feel, i wont be able to stop!
Hope the baby is ok.. and glad he has a lovely home now x
p.s i love lilacs! x

thank you, yes the anger eats at me i have learnt the hard way of the way people react when i don't bite my tongue.Baby boar is good today he is running around the cage and for the first time i have seen Basil leave his pigloo:o:).He doesn't have a name yet i just can't seem to decide on the perfect name for him?/

OMG - just catching up! It so hard to making split second decisions whether to take on more than you actually can/want to!

I don't know if you'd been able to keep my tongue; but then I'm not exactly known for my tact! NO WONDER, you're angry and agonising about the girls!

Just remember - you can't save Australia single-handledly! Not even Albury...
