Could you guys please show me some pictures of how much veg you feed your guinea pigs and tell me how many times you feed them a day? I am worried I am giving mine too much fresh food. I'm also interested to see how everyone else prepares their food (i.e how they cut it up and stuff)

Don't have a photo at the moment. I work on the basis that each piggy needs a good teacupful of veggies per day, and I divide this into two servings. Breakfast and Tea. At each serving there will be 3 or 4 different veggies eg. Breakfast: Mixed lettuce leaves, carrots, cucumber. Tea: Savoy cabbage, Apple, Green Beans, celery. (This is today's menu) Cabbage is roughly chopped, Apple, cucumber, celery, carrots into chunks. Green beans into thirds. x

I don't usually cut veggies up. If there is only 1 carrot and 2 piggies then I'll cut it in two to stop squabbling (although they both try to go for the same piecemallethead). It's very funny watching them try to take a whole carrot through a doorway that's narrower than the carrot!
They get whole cabbage leaves too.

Isn't cabbage bad for them? I thought it gave them gas.

Hi,
I don't have any pics I'm afraid but I usually feed my 2 boys approx 2 cupfuls (I heap their veggie bowl) in the morning - they share the bowl. Then they often get a little extra food during floor time in the evening, just some extra leaves or favourites like cherry tomatoes! I find that this is enough for them - they will sometimes leave some of their veggies for lunchtime rather than eating it all in one go. I cut the veg into smallish chunks as I think this encourages them to eat a greater variety of the different veg in their bowl, rather than eating only one larger piece of one veg.
They always get spring greens, plus any from the following: peppers, apple, carrot, broccoli, cucumber, cherry tomatoes (cut in half, otherwise they just chase them around!), celery cut small, mixed lettuce leaves, baby corn or corn on the cob...
I hope that helps
Catherine x

My 2 girlies have a bowlful like this twice a day. One for breakfast and one for tea. I chop the veg up in to chunks. The bowl can have anything in it from mixed salad leaves, tomato, pepper, cucumber, melon, celery, parsley, coriander, carrot, cabbage etc etc

Once on a visit to my parents house, we forgot to take their veg bowl so they had a tupperware box instead

I will take a pic later for you. My bf already thinks I am a nutbar, taking pics of fake pig teddies pretending to eat etc so I am sure he won't think anything of me taking a picture of their evening meal! :{:(|)

they usually get a lunchtime snack too which would for example consist of 2 small cubes of cucumber per pig and maybe a mint leave each xx

I'm glad this thread has been made as i was going to ask the same question as lately Mac and Rascal have been saying i dont give them enough food!mine get fed twice a day a bowl of dry food and a bowl similar size to hels/nutmegs bowl (Mac and Rascal looked at the photo and said thats what they should be getting just for themselves!:)) )
the veg goes very fast and the dried food bowl only has a bit left when its the next feeding time.with them eating so much i was beginning to think i wasnt giving them enough but now i know they have plenty and are just greedy boys :)

Wow thats a lot of food in that photo! If I had to prepare all that I don't think I'd ever get to work, you must have it down to an art!
Yes I agree that one of those bowls would be about what I'd give my two boys. They usually greet it very enthusiastically :))
