Since yesterday afternoon, I found out that my piggy wasn't eating/drinking/pooping. Since she is my first guinea pig, I didn't really know what to do and assumed she was dying from old age (she's 6 years old).
However, this morning she was still hanging in there so my parents and I immediately took her to the vet. We found out she most likely had GI stasis and was immediately put on meds.
She is urinating fine now and seems to have regained some of her apetite and energy back, but she's still not pooping and her back side is still bloated so she cannot stand up or walk.

I am currently feeding her Critical Care as well as the meds the vet has prescribed!
Does anyone have advice on how to make her defecate again? Please help!

Hi,
What are you feeding her, where did you get her (how long ago) and most importantly what medications and how much are you giving her?
This could be a range of things such as sickness and as you mentioned old age.
If you give her really fibrous foods like fruit and vegetables with many vitamins like capsicums (peppers), apples and greens as well as her guinea pig pellets that should help her. Also if she isn't drinking much you should syringe feed her her water to make sure she stays hydrated. If she's not eating well, try adding hot water to her pellets and mushing up her fruit/veg.
The medication will probably have an effect on her digestive system and might slow it down, also making her poo a different shape and perhaps smaller and a harder consistency. As long as she's getting enough food and water and the right food and a nice warm place to rest hopefully she should improve.
Good luck and big hugs to her x

Is she taking probiotics such as Bio-Lapis or Avipro Plus. Fibreplex is also a very good supplement. Gently massaging her tummy will be help her too. I used an old electric toothbrush, the type that vibrate & when Minky was ill in December massaged her for 30 40 40 minutes at a time. She would suddenly start doing loads of poos almost like a conveyor belt.

Here's a piccy of Minky with the toothbrush:-

hi, when i've had a piggy like this i tend to go back to basics. if the apatite is still there & they can eat on their own i mainly just feed their natural diet of good grass little & often & hay to give the stomach a rest & help any gas subside. i don't feed any dry food for a few of days as it can slow the gut down even more. gentle tummy massage helps a lot. on recovery i introduce veg & fruit again, loads of hay & a limited amount dry food. hope your piggy gets better soon :)

Thank you for your feedback!
Her bloating has gone down significantly from last night and after massaging her belly, she has let out quite a bit poop!

We let her exercise for some time everyday, but obviously she still gets tired pretty quickly. Hopefully, she will be able to recover soon! :)

Only just caught up with this thread. You have some great advice already and it's good the massage has helped. Has she been given any kind of gut stimulant such as Metachlopromide?

Also I find Dioralyte can help in times of stasis and/or gas.

Please can you update your location so we can tailor our advice accordingly.

Also, she seems to have a bit of crust around her nose but it's not runny at all.
Is this normal?

It could be the start of an upper respiratory infection, what is the antibiotic you have?

That should help if it is a URI developing. Please note though that it can affect the gut so the probiotic mentioned above will be needed.

Just an update:
Her nose has no crust and I haven't been seeing her sneeze abnormally anymore!
However, she does seem to be shedding a lot possibly due to the warmer weather but there are no bald spots and hair's not coming out in clumps which is good.
She began pooping a lot yesterday (came out like a conveyer belt :P ) but isn't pooping that much today, maybe once an hour or two. I just saw her actually taking one of them up and eating it so that might be the cause of me not seeing that much. :)
