I had guinness out for the first time today, thought id give him a day to settle in. He ran to the back of the hutch squeaking when i tried to pick him up but when i finally did i put him on my knee and petted him while talking to him quietly. He was shaking and making a weird noise, like he was eating, whirring or grunting? :{ I cant explain it. He eventually found the temptation of grass too much and jumped off my knee and wow can he eat! He every so often stretched up onto the bars and he did move around a bit. I just read my book while he did this. I normally bond with my rabbits like this because in the end they cant resist coming for a nosey but i dont think guinea pigs really care :)) I didnt leave his hide in the run ( i was in the run btw lol ) because i know he wouldnt of came out of it, he rarely does. He must do though because i put in veg this morning and by afternoon it was gone lol. Ah, sorry for rambling! What are some good signs hes starting to like me? :) :)
 
My guineas vibrate a bit at first too, and make a bit of a fuss until they are tucked up under their towel and settled. The signs of tameness in guineas I think are quite subtle and slow to come. Usually I can tell they are starting to like me when they don't run for life as soon as they hear my voice, but rather poke their heads out of hiding to see if I've got food! Also they get a bit easier to catch, and relax and lie down a bit quicker once they're with you. Having said that, Floris who is mostly very tame, still squeels like a little piglet if she's not in the mood.:))
 
i was in the run with him today, i let him do his own thing and after about half an hour he came and sat beside me on the box containing treats! Not sure if he wanted to see me or have treats but he kept coming back. I think he got spooked by something and he ran behind me and he was just running really fast around his run making whirring noises. His mouth was moving alot like he was chewing but he wasnt. He was also making a noise like chittering? And there was a noise that sounded like the chattering of teeth or the noise you make when your cold. When i put him back in the hutch he made that sound and he was running about everywhere, more active than ive seen him ever and he kept coming over to me and then deciding better. Sooo i think progress? They make so much noise i dont know what they all mean or if the just dont mean anything :{
 
Just be good company and talk to him a lot. It takes time to become friends, but you will know and will be able to learn his body language better.

it is a good sign that your little boy is talkative. A really frightened guinea pig is a silent guinea pig. It is normal for a piggy to leave the hide only when they are feeling secure. YOu will get to see him more when he settles in and learns the different rituals.

Thanks :) I had a read through that earlier on, alot of the things hes been doing make sense but I'm still trying to read him lol. Its funny because i never see him out his hide but when i put his food in and come back 20 minutes later its almost all gone rolleyes he obviously knows when I'm not there lol!
