Hiya

Just thinking about this and wondered when guinea pigs are 'adult'? When do they reach their adult size?

Just curious.

i don't know, i've always thought around 1 year, but i'm really not sure. :-\ ?

tbh it has differed with my lot..morgan used to be a tiny skinny thing up until about 2 yrs when she suddenly grew and got fat pouches on either side lol it was almost overnight! shes 5 1/2 now and a bit stockier all over

but i have a 5 month old who is growing and getting chunky quite fast, shes not fat shes just gaining her figure quicker where as my other 9 month old is still small and quite skinny for her age..depends on the pig..

i assumed it was 1, as bob grew up very fast, then after hitting 1 didnt grow much (hes 1 and 3 months now) but then while i was on holiday he had a sudden growth spurt and when i got back he'd grown into his fat (he was pretty chubby when i left)! lol. he had becove a very long pig, and he wasnt exactly small to begin with, hes always been a big pig.

i found that munchie was growing very slowly compared to bob, but he suddenly grew last week, and is now exactly the same size as bob, and hes 3 months younger, so i think its different with each piggy. the size they can grow to differs too i think, especially if you get a breed like a rex in my experience, just because of how munchie is built, and the fact that he is still growing, compared to bob

Thanks for those replies.

I am just interested because I have been looking at all the pics on the forum and the piggies here seem HUGE compared to my two pipsqueaks! (Who are 10 and 7 weeks ish).. I just wondered when they might get big! lol

Its strange but the younger of the two, Piggle is already a lot larger than the other one! So yeah it must differ with the piggies themselves... and who eats the most! ::) :)

It may depend on breed too, though I am not sure. Timmy is a coronet and has a small frame but is very long whereas Lennie is an aby x and is very wide and chunky. My Teddies are a similar size though Larry is a bit chunkier..probably because he always gets to the food first ;D
