The last month or so (maybe longer), my husband and I have woken up to a strange noise. It sounded like a bird or a cricket chirping quickly. We were so confused! My husband said “I think it’s one of the piggies!” And I said “No they don’t make this noise. I’ve had Guinea pigs all of my life and I’ve never heard this”. Many times we were woken up, we checked all around the house, still couldn’t figure it out. It always happened anywhere between 1am-5/5:30am. Then finally one early morning (once at 1:30 am and then another time) at 4:15am, my husband said “I’m telling you, it’s one of the piggies!” And he went in their bedroom and sure enough, there Phantom was, quite content, singing along! Even when my husband turned their light on (we hadn’t done this in the past so we didn’t disturb them), he started video taping, and you can see Phantoms body moving along with the noise. My husband said “see! It IS one of them! It’s Phantom! I’m watching him! His body is moving with the noise!” And I still didn’t believe him. I said “no it’s probably just coincidence. It can’t be him”. so I got up and went in there and I was stunned to see our little Phantom singing along looking very content and happy! Now, he continues to wake us at least 3-4 times a week! It’s adorable! I’ve read some articles saying it’s bc they sense danger and warning the others, however every time Phantom has done this, none of the other piggies are freaking out, and Phantom is usually laying on his house looking very comfy and watching the others walk around or sleep! He usually does this out in the open on top of the house so I don’t think he feels danger. I think he’d be in one of his shelters if he was afraid. Not out in the open! It’s interesting and I feel very lucky and blessed to have him! He is also the only one who is “different” then the other piggies. He is half short hair and half long haired and his hair grows in all sorts of directions. He is white and grey with a raccoon face (white and black). The front hair by his ears is longer so he looks like he is wearing a crown or Mohawk, and the middle of his body is short hair and his bottom is long hair that grows opposite directions! He is my little scuttlebutt (nickname). Adorable! I posted a pic of him when he was 1-2 weeks old. Before part of his hair grew really long! That’s him with his brother shadow and sister Dhalia (in the middle)!

Omg is it like a soft chirping? It’s so funny, a pig I had almost 20 years ago used to do this at night, but I’ve never heard of any others doing it! This reminds me of them ❤️ I do however have a southern tree frog which loves to croak the song of its people every night 🙄😂🐸

I wish I could post the video! 😭
Guinea pig chirping is a well known thing, but no one knows for sure why they do it. It is quite unusual though. None of my piggies ever did it (as far as I know).
:luv:
To post a video you need to put it on YouTube or similar and link to it.

@YvonneBlue has Pongo, I don't know if he still does it but when she got him he was a chirper.
Yes, Pongo is still a regular chirper. Usually in the early hours of the morning but still occasionally when he is in the run for floor time. Sometimes Val joins in the chorus too, she has a much quieter and softer chirp than Pongo. This is the video of Pongo chirping.

My first piggy, Deedee, was also a chirper. She would usually do this in the middle of the night also. She was also not in distress and her sister Meemee wasn't bothered with it. My husband used to wake me up whenever Deedee did it. I'm a heavy sleeper and hubby is the light sleeper so he always was woken up with Deedee's very loud chirping. It would sometime last for 10 mins and hubby would tell me to give the piggies some treats just to stop her and so he could go back to sleep. 😂😂

Sometimes it is soft and other times it is soooo loud like a fire alarm! Lol not really THAT loud but loud enough! He does it softer now since my husband caught him lol

Ooh please do! Are you able to upload it to YouTube to then attach?
I can try! I am new to this lol I’m not really a “poster” but I’m learning! I’ll comment again when i figure it out :) thanks for letting me know how to do that! I didn’t know that would work! Doing this now!

Yes! He has done it on and off for 4 hours! Every time my husband and I would laugh while trying to go back to sleep! We’d almost be back asleep and Phantom Scuttlebutt would start up again and sing for 5-10 min then stop for a few then start singing softly then stop then he’ll sing really loud then stop a few min. Then he’ll wait 15-20 min then he’ll start singing again lol it’s cute

Yes and yes! That's a lot of noise from a little piggy 🤣
Great! Yay! Haha and yes! That was just a small clip of a very long video! Haha he went on that night about 4 hours! On and off! You can hear my husband say “shhh!” Lol bc he had been doing it for hours and we hadn’t slept! Haha it was adorable. He does this all the time! I love it. !

Please excuse the cage! I have been sick and I have to clean it today! But this is Phantom Scuttlebutt! I’ve had him since birth! I have 7 total. He is 1 out of 3 that my Peanut (RIP) had with Spooky (accidental pregnancy), and then I have Pumpkin, Dhalia, Shadow, Penny B(ee), and Ninja Sprout Aka Scoot(er). They are my babies. Posted pics of phantom my singer and then the whole gang :)

My singing piggie! Sorry, I’m new to this so I wanted to be sure everyone can see the video lol and I forgot to post pics of the twins Penny B(ee) and Ninja Sprout Aka Scoot(er) ! Dhalia and Penny B(ee) are both named after Black Flowers :) bc of their furr color. Penny Black is the actual flower but I call her Penny “B(ee)” instead. “B” for “black” and (ee) bc Bees love flowers! And then I posted another one of my original two “Pumpkin and Spooky”! They are female and male. Never mated. They’re 2. I was the 4th home they were in in 6 months and they were neglected in a cold garage (the third home. They were dropped off on their doorstep. And those people didn’t have anywhere for them so they let me adopt them to give them a good home). I went to 4 pet stores with my husband and none of them had Guinea pigs. My husband knew my heart was set on getting them that day. So he told me to check Craigslist. So I did. And that’s when I came upon their ad. I knew from then that these were supposed to be mine. Especially that the people I adopted them from, lived on “starlight lane” and starlight was my first Guinea pig I ever had. Got her in preschool, and she lived for 10-11 years. I watched her be born and had her since birth. I knew for sure these piggies were meant to be mine :) Pumpkin is just now getting over bloat and GI Stasis. Thank God. I took her 5 times to the vet, and watched her every day non stop and made her as comfy as possible and I did everything I could for her. And she pulled through and now she is so happy, energetic, and even started talking! I am truly blessed Guinea mom! Hopefully when my husband and I move, he already told me I can have my own Guinea pig sanctuary , where I can have a rescue. :)

Is that Mary Berry in the background? Love her lol

Wow that's some chirper! My Beatrice used to do it all the time when she was young (but not as loud as that!) then her husboar Merry came to live with us and she never did it again!

So, tonight is the first night my husband and I heard the chirping so early! It is 10:35 pm in North Carolina USA and I went in to take more video to post. This one was even louder! And when I was recording , I realized, this is my singers Brother, Shadow! So now we have 2 singing piggies! Shadow is a black piggie with salt and pepper coloring with a white sprout on top his head. It was dark in their room and I didn’t want to disturb him by turning on the lights. So I turned on the hall light and got him singing! Trying to post now. How cool! We didn’t know it but we have 2 singing piggies! All of the other piggies are asleep laying there as if they are enjoying his song! Haha it’s so cute! I was telling him “it’s ok Shadow” bc I didn’t want him to stop and run into his house or be startled (they know what “ it’s ok” means= no danger you’re safe). Going to post now :) so excited! Haha he was very content. And his singing brother was laying down very relaxed. It was super cute!
