Siting boars next to sows

I'm in the process of deciding how to do my C&C cage now I've got the cubes. I would *like* to have 2 separate areas both with their own hayloft. I would like to put a pair of boars in one side and a group of sows in the other however I've been told that this may cause hostility amongst the boars to be sited so near to the sows.

Does anyone know of any problems caused by this? Is this caused by sight or smell of the sows? If its the earlier I have thought about putting the correx up the full height between the two sides, therefore stopping any possibility of seeing eachother. Would this help?

I've heard of people doing that and it working. As long as you put the correx up high like you say.

I have always managed to keep boars and sows in the same room or shed. Last winter my pair of boys lived in a large C&C above a group of girls and a neutered boy without any problems. My piggies have always been able to smell/see each other - not sure whether this has made any difference, but the boys never had any fall outs.

It might be advisable to put a sight barrier in between the the two parts or have one at the ready.

I do have boars and sows in the same room, but from what I have experienced I had 2 boars together living very close to some girls but not right next to each other, but they fought and drew blood and had to be seperated, but you might be ok.

Do you know yet if your boars are going to be neutered as I believe if they are they will be a bit more calmer. I think the main problems arise ( as probably with most animals ) when the sows are in season so the boars obviously would get a bit rowdy!

I've got my eye on Ralph and BumbleBee and I asked Layla what she thought about the possibility of having them in close proximity to one another, she said she wouldn't usually put them so close together as hostilities may arise but thought I would double - check with everyone. I'm not gonna do it if its to the detriment of the piggies happiness and welfare. But yes - they are both neutered. I think Layla has that done with all the boys. x

I have always housed one my boars Mimsi, next to the girls cage. They both love the interaction and lick each others through the bars of the cage

They are quite happy to pose for photos, Mimsi is six and has always has his cage next to the girls. That way he has two lovely ladies to flirt with. Mo other boar Montgomerys cage is at the other side of the room so he gets no kisses. He prefers humans to other piggies anyway

I'd really avoid doing this. The scent of the girls could cause the boys to become friskier than usual resulting in dominance issues and/or fighting.

If there are multipe boars then this could result in fisticuffs between them. My situation works as mimsi thinks that he is the girls husband and my other boy is in a seperate cage at the oppostie side of the room..

Oh Ralph and Bumble Bee are gorgeous! We adopted Sandy and Rizzo and will hopefully be adopting Sam and Sookie as well

Quick question... instead of putting the boars in a C&C cage alongside the sows, what about doing a cage so that the boars are either in a cage underneath or above... that way there'd be no sight aspect which could cause hostility, or would this still cause problems? x
