Trudy is booked in at the vet's tomorrow morning for a biopsy on her troublesome skin. He told me we'd need to leave her with them and when we collect her she will have a stitch in the place where they take the biopsy. I am wondering whether they will give her a whiff of anaesthetic for this procedure? And if so, how likely it will be to interfere with eating etc? I have made sure to have a supply of critical care and syringes just in case. Also is it likely to be sore enough that I should ask for some pain relief for her? Hazelnut is going too as a paw-holder. Should I pack them a lunchbox? I'm hoping they won't need to be left for too long but it probably depends how busy they are. Last Monday morning seemed chocka!

It won’t hurt to pack a lunchbox in case it’s needed.
Having syringes and Critical Care at hand is good, hopefully you won’t need it.
Check with the vet about pain relief- it’s quite possible they will send her home with some anyway.
You will feel anxious tomorrow but that is natural.
Hope all goes well and they can give you a proper diagnosis for Trudy.
Holding you in my heart

Hi!

Taking a skin biopsy shouldn't take very long, so I wouldn't expect any problems with recovery from any sedation/anaesthesia - it depends where the problem is located. It should also not be all too painful. Keep in mind that painkillers are part of any operation drug cocktail, so please enquire and do not medicate on your own.

Make sure that they have some hay; you can take a bit of their favourite veg or treats if you wish to.

All the best!

Thank you very much.

They just phoned to say she is coming round from the anaesthetic and is doing well. I have to collect her later this afternoon. The piggies will be indoors for a few days so I can keep an eye on her better.

She's home, bimbling about happily, feeding and pooping and having a little wash. The vet took two biopsies and appears from the invoice to have ordered 45 lab tests! I didn't know there even were 45 things you could test for! We have to wait for results now.

My daughter and I decided to try giving some recovery food. Trudy seems to be eating pretty normally but we thought it couldn't hurt to give a top-up and would be good practice for if we ever needed to do it in an emergency. Trudy took 3 1-ml syringes of Oxbow critical care and seemed pretty happy about it! She wasn't entirely convinced that a hooman should be in charge of this stuff, but I didn't have to wrap her in a towel or anything, just coax her teeth apart, and only a tiny bit was smeared over me. In the meantime, Hazelnut was licking blobs of it off my daughter's fingers with great relish 🙂

Hope the results come quickly- waiting isn’t easy.
Glad your girl is doing well
Thank you
