Here's my little Stewart :) I noticed this tag of skin on his front left foot while clipping nails. It is loose round the side and doesn't appear to bother him, but is firmly attached. Mobility is fine. Do I need to do anything about it? X

Difficult to tell properly from the photo. Dead skin tags grow at the back of the foot pads. It sounds like a skin tag from what you say, in which case you might be able to cut it off with a pair of nail clippers.

To me it looks like a foot spur- one of my pigs is prone to them. They generally grow backwards from the pad of the foot, where this one looks to be.

Looks like a spur to me. Some of my boys get them. It's a bit more like hard skin than their nails.... I usually just clip it off with the nail clippers but sometimes they get soft and just come away themselves.

Thanks guys, I'll try and get him to stay still so I can trim it down :)

Definitely looks like a foot spur, the first time I saw one on my pigs I thought they had stepped on a poo :)) My vet has said before once it's trimmed you can keep it short by using an emery board if you aren't confident in trimming it yourself

It's really hard to tell from the photo, but if you see a vet then they will be able to diagnose properly (it doesn't sound like bumblefoot, but if it is it will need treatment and can be very difficult to get rid of). Foot spurs are pretty common, and the vet would be able to trim it and show you how to do it yourself.

I was going to get some stuff from Gorgeous guineas......as all mine have them and I worry about them!

Deftly looks like, a Spur What do you use as bedding? Often foot spurs can be a result of course bedding same as it can with bumblefoot .
Never found GG to make any difference !

Looks like a spur to me too. I tend to leave them unless they grow so much they can catch and then they can be clipped as others have said.

Interesting to know it can be caused by bedding.
