I recently adopted a male one year old hairless skinny pig I’ve notice he poops way more than my other three pigs with fur.is this normal ?I’ve also noticed his poops are a lot bigger and some are softer he’s eating a drinking a lot was wanting to make sure that was ok . Thank you again everyone ❤️😊

From memory I believe they have a much faster metabolism than normal piggies, so that might be why?
Is his weight stable?

Yes, his weight is stable. Yeah, I was reading that. They poop a lot more and their poop is bigger than guinea pigs with fur lol but I also noticed that his poops are perfectly oval shaped just some of them are a little bit softer than others so I just wanted to make sure that was OK. He’s been eating great drinking running around. I just wasn’t sure because my guinea pigs was for their poops aren’t as soft. moose is my hairless guinea pig and he’s not having any diarrhea and it’s not loose. They’re just softer.

Yes their metabolism is faster so they poop more, eat more and need to be kept warmer.

I don’t think the poop should be soft though - have you made sure to introduce any new veggies slowly?
Is he on the same nuggets etc that he was on previously?

yes he is on the same pellets always has hay an yes I introduce one new veggie a week if I do all I give him now is mixed greens parsley cilantro and sometimes carrot shreds

All skinny pigs poop loads and mine all drink more water than our haired ones. Not sure why.

Poop shouldn't be soft though. You are probably giving him a slightly different diet than he previously had and this may have upset his digestive system a little.

We mainly give our piggies romaine lettuce, cucumber, coriander (cilantro) and green beans. Other veggies are an occasional treat a couple of times a week. Carrots are far too sugary to be given on a regular basis.

The main thing with skinny pigs is keeping them warm. They don't cope well with temperatures below 18C.

Do post a picture of your piggies.

This is my boar, his name is Pongo.

I had to keep Camowen on a very limited diet. Thd only things he could have veg wise, daily, were bell pepper, parsley and cucumber. Anything else (including lettuce, any lettuce, and coriander) would upset his digestive system so badly he'd have to go on a hay only diet for a few days until it settled again.

Parsley is high in calcium and not suitable for regular feeding.

What exactly is in the mixed greens?
Spinach baby lettuce blend the purple lettuce sometimes your little pieces of cabbage it’s an organic blunder. I always buy and rinse out. I know not to give them iceberg, but it’s just all different kinds of lettuce is besides iceberg. I give them peppers every other day to switch it up carrots a few times a week cucumber.

Spinach is also high calcium and cannot be fed daily.

Carrots should not be given more than once a week. They should only ever be a very occasional treat. The sugars in carrots are unhealthy for piggies and cause digestive upsets (dysbiosis).

Lettuce, coriander, bell pepper and cucumber are the four safe daily veg.

It’s any lettuce except iceberg lettuce - I usually give romaine or butterhead (just whichever one I have bought for the humans that week!)

If his poops are too soft now then you will have to remove all veg from his diet for a few days to allow his gut to settle. Once poops normalised you still keep him off veg for a further 24 hours but after that you can then reintroduce veg very slowly, one small piece is one veg at a time so you don’t overload the system again.

Thank you so so much I appreciate it so how long should it take till poops are normal and when it is back to normal I should give him one kind of veggie a-week in small amounts?

It depends how bad the dysbiosis is. It could take several days.

Yes, in small amounts, for example, 24 hours after poops normalise give one sprig of a herb on one day. If that is ok, then on day two give one sprig of herb and a thin slice of pepper. If all ok, then on day three add in a thin slice of lettuce and so on
