I noticed this morning that a slug has been in the girls hutch over night as there was slug slime. Luckily they're being cleaned out today. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, does anyone have a solution on how to stop this happening and is it harmful to piggies?

yes i got it lot last summer i put slug and snail powder on the outside of the hutch and it seemed to work. :)

I really don't know if slugs can cause harm to piggies - wouldn't have thought so though. But aren't they just vile?! Yeuch! :P

Ok dont want to be gross but when my blossom (bridge bun) was a baby i had her in a hutch and a slug got in as i found it going up her bottom!! Yes makes me want to hurl too.....
I used pots of salt and stood legs of hutch i them... O0

I had trouble with slugs last summer, all the hutches will be off the ground this time around!

So glad mine are indoors now. I remember going out one night when it was dark, and putting my hand onto what I thought was the door catch! Ewwwwww I put my hand straight onto a slug! :o :o :o :o :o I am shuddering now just thinking about it!

I found a slug in their hutch once, huuuuuge one . . . I just removed him and he's not been back. It must have been quite hard work getting all the way up the legs of the hutch anyway.

I don't think the guineas are interested in eating him and vice versa lol.

My mum uses beer in a plastic pot (like a yoghurt pot) and buries it at ground level, they love beer and they fall in and drown :P

Not helpful I know but thought I would share ;D

I had a big slug problem when mine were outside last year! >:( I wrapped really coarse sandpaper round the legs of my hutch and put a square of sandpaper under each foot of the hutch as well. The slugs stayed away because the sandpaper hurts! I had been told about the beer thing, but the thought of emptying a container full of drunk slugs turned my stomach! :o

I don't mind either slugs or slugs.Just not on my plants and especially not at night when I stand on the snails and they crush, aaaarggghhhh

When i lived in the centre of Norwich we had slugs and snails everywhere i used to do regular night patrols
now live in open country side much less of a problem the birds and hedgehogs do a wonderful job!
