CharlottiesPiggies

Guys -
I am doing some research for work and I need your help. I have been working for Forsham Cottage Arks for a month now, and I want to put forward a proposal for a Small Animal Starter Kits for Guinea Pigs and Rabbits.
As you would be my target audience, I want to obtain from you what kind of things you would look for in a kit, I have already written down a few points as to what I believe is important for new owners.
· 4ft or 6ft hutch (see the photos below)
· Feed bowl / water bottle.
· Starter Shavings (‘handy’ bale)
· Feed sample (250g)
· Care Guide.
Also the most important – the price, I mean our hutches aren’t imported, they are British built, strong and have a 20 year + lifetime; hence the price of some of them.

I have attached photos for you to see, I would appreciate feedback via private message as it makes reading easier for me.

I thank you in advance for your co-operation.

Can I have a link to their site :)

I don't like the idea of starting people on shavings, and what food will you use? Maybe a bag of meadow hay (small) and some Just Grass?

I can't work out how to pm you but until I do - how about a hayrack? Nice to have. It depends how far you want to go - if you presume they haven't had pigs before, then you could include a brush, nail clippers?

What about a hutch cover? If they are to be used outdoors then something to put down over the front in the wind and rain would be good.

Hope that helps

Sophie

I mean we just want basic things, nothing too baffling for a first time keeper, I have written down your comments :D Hayracks are a funny one as they are difficult to buy wholesale, well this is what I have found anyway.

Karen, I will speak to my manager tommorrow, I hope we can sort some form of Reciprocal link out though?

I agree about not liking shavings - would much rather see some hay go with it :)
What are ther other hutch dimentions? For a rabbit (in addition to being 6' in length) they would really need to be 2foot wide and high rather than the 16 - 18 inches that lots of hutches offer ;)

I used to have one of their brochures - it had a great picture on the front - used to love looking through it. Well made stuff. My hackles also go up when I see 'starter kit'. Only because it's an excuse for the petshops to sell a tiny hutch with a pack of sawdust for too much money. They seem to assume that people will buy a bigger hutch at some stage, but most probably don't. But I know that what you're doing is proper so I'll smooth my hackles down! I would suggest in the care leaflet a list of other things people will need to buy, that you're not supplying in your starter kit.
