I have to clean mine out every day, maybe same goes for you?
I clean out the smaller cages every other day but the hutches i do twice a week but take wet bits out everyday :)

I've not kept piggies in a shed. mine are house piggies i clean my hunnies out every three days, they are on vet bed. i sweep out poops every day and change newspaper if there are any damp bits and they dont get smelly ever. :) definatley recommend vet bed.

The only thing you should smell when you walk into a shed is hay or bedding. I've been in a shed with many, many pigs (over 50, including many boars) and all I could smell was hay.

If you have wooden hutches then there's a possibility they are not being cleaned properly and the urine is soaking into the wood. If the shed is too small for the animals that are in it the answer is simple, really - stop adding more animals!

well underneath their hay and stuff its got lino and underneath the lino i bought some P@H varnish that stunk and all piggies had to be evacuated after i painted one hutch ;D - The boars dont smell neither does the piggies its just cause they poo and that and i have a heater in there i think it smells awful - one reason i dont allow pets in my house ::)

I was only wandering what i could do to stop the stink - obviously when people come in my shed of what i know of i leave the door open then it smells fine but they get cold :-\

What sort of smell is it? That may sound a stupid question but I hope you get what I'm hinting at. Am I right in that you haven't had your shed and hutches that long? If so, surely the smell shouldn't have seeped into the word yet? Surely not :-\

I suppose when you are IN you could live the shed door open to air it?

Thats what i do :-\ - The smell is just of heat and the smell of guinea pigs :P I cant explain it but even when they get cleaned out it still smells ?

Does the shed have some sort of ventilation other than the door? Even if there's a heater you still need some sort of decent airflow like a vent otherwise you're just going to be heating stale air.

2 windows - only 1 opens though - but i dont open them unless its summer as it makes them chilly and i dont want them to get cold plus thered be no good of my heater thats an oil one :)

My shed has got lots of pigs in it but it just smells of pigs and hay. Do you use any sort of hutch spray or disinfectant when you clean?

Or is the shed damp? Mine was a bit damp when it was first up (before the pigs were in it!) and it smelled kind of musty until it was dry and aired

i keep my shed door open on warmer days and have a heater too
they are on fleece and vet bed and get cleaned out at least twice a week its amazing how much boys poop and girls pee!
they only smell when they need cleaning out some are in hutches with correx and some in cages But when its warmer they will all be going out side in hutches
its sounds lke your wood has become soaked with pee maybe scrubbing out and putting new lino in may help?

The shed i dont 'think' is damp as i have laminate flooring - but it may be that i need new lino as it was all built in nov 98) and thats when i put it in - will scrub clean next wednesday when i get day off or at the weekend O0 just to see if it is the wood in the hutches ;)

In warmer days all piggies are in there own runs with their hutch mates O0

I use a sparay in the hutches but only a little bit as i get afraid of usng it incase it harms the piggies :-\ so tend to not use any

I know you have a lot of guineas but do you ever let your cages rest , ie put the guineas out on the grass and wash and air the cages, have had our prob in the past, have now moved to a new shed but this is how i dealt with the problem

Only summer round the corner it will get worse, get into a routine now and you will have a sent free summer ;D

OOoh yes, I agree. If the weather's nice I put all of mine out in runs and clean the cages out, spray them and then let the cages air for a few hours - so that they get really dry ;)

I'm not allowing my piggies to catch a cold in this weather so dont even think about letting them out :-\ Its cold enough for me never mind the little bodies guinea pigs.

when its summer they all get clean cages every day and are outside all day with fresh veg and plenty of water O0

You say they are not varnished or am I reading it wrong. I read you did one hutch and it stunk of varnish so you stopped. :-\

gosh where are you , i have had mine out loads of times to air the shed floor, but in the past when i had your problem it wa sthe hutch floor that was getting soaked and man it smelt, but leaving the door open during the daay should not do them to much harm, probable a smell of new scents will stimulate them and they will enjoy it,

I would imagine their coats are quiet thick if they live in the shed
