My neighbours have started havings parties each weekend and have a chimenea (not sure how you spell it but one of those outside wood burning thingies)!

Anyway we don't have a normal chimney / flu. We just have a metal thingy that sticks outside the side of the house at same level as our fire. well all the smoke from next door comes into our living room where the piggies are! tonight I have put a bin bag tied with string over the outside outlet which seems to have stemmed it a bit but the house is still smokey.

I am worried about their lungs! Both me and my boyfriend smoke, but would never do it in the house and they are breathing in nextdoors smoke! it is the 3rd time it has happened in as many weeks and they are in their right to have it in their garden!

Do you think this will cause my piggies any problems? or am I being over protective?

If your fire is a gas fire and it is the outlet you have covered then UNCOVER it immediately. You could be running the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Well, I've been wondering about this as my neighbours had a huge garden fire, you know just burning all there junk and smoke can our way! all over the piggies who were in the garden (in a hutch) I covered them over! it was evening.

It is worrying. Now that they have finished I will remove the bag but we never really use the fire anyway!

Totally 100% agree with this.

Seriously, never cover it! It sounds like it's the flue and is extremely dangerous if you cover anything over it. Doesn't matter if you are using the fire or not - never block this up!

ok sorry will not do it again but how can I let all next door's smoke fill my living room? I have an open plan house stairs in living room so it was all upstairs and everything!

yes maybe, but that was one of those nights I hate big loud crouds I am a whimp! It all ended with me shouting out of the bathroom window at about 11.30 "keep it down" at top of my voice I was in bed and couldn't sleep and there was no way I was facing a big group of people who had been drinking in my PJs :))

"a big group of people who had been drinking in my PJs "
Sorry, couldn't resist, no comment needed!!!

I can see it! Though I do really feel for you - neither would I!

Best luck anyway. Perhaps you could ask your neighbours to give you notice, so you can close all windows and doors beforehand?

:)) I meant that they were drinking and I was in my pjs :))

All windows and doors were shut. there house is set forward to mine so there patio is next to the side of my house where my fire is and it all comes in.....

I knew you meant that - we have got BBQ enthusiastic neighbours, and is a real nuisance in summer! Especially when it's hot and you are slowly roasted staying indoors...

If all else fails, go out your way to set up a barbecue to have the same effect on them. Maybe then they'd get the message. :))

unfortunately there fire thingy is actually not near my in my backgarden. I would have to do it on the drive :))

I actually have one of those envirospheres (think that is what they are called). They are a bowl with water in and you put in slight amount of perfume and they suck in the dirty air and spit out clean air. I never even thought to put that on as haven't used it in months. Will definately try that next time

Thanks

Next time go outside in your PJ's.
It may spook the horses.

hello :)

if you dont use the fire place why dont * have it professionally filled in or seek their advice on how to stop the smoke filling up in the house. i kno we couldnt survive during the summer evenings without our chimenea and then there are barbeques etc so it is unlikely your neighbours are goin to change their habits for *. good luck with it all! x
