Hey everyone, my guinea pig, Chippers, is having sneezing fits! :( I noticed some crust around her nose. I know URI is a definite suspect; BUT, she's not showing any other symptoms of URI. She has been in her hut more but it's also her favorite place to be. She has a little bed in there and she just loves hanging out in there, she even popcorns while in there. She'll come out to play normally and she eats normally too. I have recently purchased a HEPA air purifier from Walmart the other day and it seems to be helping. I say seems because she doesn't seem to be sneezing as much but yet she still does.

I'm hesitant to take her to a vet because Chippers has had bad experiences with the vets. We only have one really good exotic vet up here and she is hard to get into. I've brought her to several different ones before but they kept misdiagnosing her and some of the medicine that she was on a while ago was harmful. So, you can see why I'm hesitant.

I have posted a picture of my girl below!

If the only symptom is sneezing and nothing else, I would rather suspect problems with hay dust or allergy. For a URI, you want to see at least two of the symptoms listed. However, I would never completely exclude it, especially if there is crusty discharge.

I cant help with the illness side but what a gorgeous guinea pig hopefully she is feeling better soon be it an allergy or a URI x

I agree if its just sneezing I would hold off the vets at the moment and make sure its not allergy related, keep a close eye on her for a few days. I have an allergy piggy and he sneezes and has mild crusting but not like you would get with a URI. What bedding is she on?

Does she sneeze more when you put hay in? Also where is she situated in your house? With you mentioning the air purifier making her sneeze less it might be something in the atmosphere you are using.

How often does she sneeze?

I've noticed my little boy sneezing a bit lately too but it's not very often yet still enough. I see him do it maybe ... 3 times or so in a day. It doesn't sound much at all but considering I rarely ever see the others sneeze I've been wondering if its serious too but other than the occasional sneeze he seems fine in himself.

Hey everyone, really looking for advice here. She still sneezes, once in a while now. I think they air purifier is working! However, tonight, she coughed like 3 times in a row and then she was done. So weird! She acts normal though, she comes when there's treats or food. She plays with the other piggies! Also, as a side note, the other piggies are not having any symptoms, I have separated them now, but, it's just making Chippers sad and depressed and won't eat. But as soon as she's back with her friends, she's eating and playing. HELP!
