Hi all. I have two guinea pigs, both about 3 months old.
One started sneezing about a weekago, and his eye looked a little crusy, so I took them both to the vet for a course of antibiotic, assuming it was a uri .
He's still sneezing and his eye is still a bit crusy.
Both boys are putting on weight and are energetic.
I've read that cold-like symptoms can be a sign of a heart problem. How would I confirm this and how is it treated?
What other possible causes could there be?

One of our piggies sneezes a lot and has been diagnosed with rhinitis.

Sneezing and crusty eyes are not necessarily a sign of heart issues. Signs of heart issues include hooting, random coughing (often after hooting), laboured breathing, being difficult to rouse from sleep etc. I can give you more information should you need it. It could be that the URI is not responding to the antibiotic or it could be a reaction to their environment. What bedding do you use?

I use meadow hay for bedding. He also has some slight milky discharge fromhis eyes today. But otherwise seems fine- eating like a horse.

My boys are around 4 months old, I've had them about a month and they're sneezing too. About a week after I got them I took them to the vets and they were put on Baytril, however this didn't work so this got changed to Septrin Paediatric. This is much better as the sneezing isn't as bad as it was and they're also happier to take this medication.
I also changed their bedding from wood shavings to a duvet cover (all I had, will probably change to fleece soon!)
But mine are just like yours, putting on weight and energetic, I shouldn't worry too much, I'd just change the bedding and see the vet if it gets any worse! :)
