This morning when I went to check on the guinea pigs, my Pebbles had her head stuck in one of the holes in the ikea bag dispenser which we use as a hay rack.

I immediately picked her up and went to sit down to try and ease her head out, i'm not sure how long she'd been there but i'm guessing not too long as she still seemed to be okay.

Eventually after patience and gentleness her head came out, I sat and petted her to make sure she was okay and she seemed fine. After returning to her hutch I syringe fed her to ensure her gut was still working okay and after that she toddled off to eat her hay.

I've just gone out to feed them all and I noticed that she was snorting. I picked her up and could noticeably hear the snorting sound. I put a dab of vics on her nose and around the hutch incase she was having difficulty breathing, but in herself she seems fine (eating, drinking) .. I guess she's resting more than normal but other than that, she's herself.

Any idea's on why she's doing this?

If it worsens or doesn't go away we will be booking her into the vet. We have removed the hay rack so no more damage can be done.

Here is a photo of her taken a couple of hours ago, as you can see she's still alert and curious as normal.

Thank you xx

I have no experience of anything like this. I would be very cautious and keep a very close eye on her, if it continues then get her into see the vet as soon as you can. It may be that she has been breathing in itty bitty bits of hay whilst she was stuck which may be irritating her nose, but its always better to be safe than sorry.

It could be likely be from breathing in bits of hay. Please keep an eye on her.
