:'( I'm literally say here crying my eyes out at what I have just seen and felt. I went to a newish P@H near me and the animals looked so unhappy, there was no food in the bowls and the staff looked so uninterested. What broke my heart the most was the 'adoption' bit where there was a little 6 week old syrian hamster just with a house and a food bowl and a water bowl. What an existance. I started blubbering and had to leave :'( :'( :'( :'(
I think all pet shops should be like Jollyes, a pet food superstore ie: not selling pets. I'm so distraught over seeing all these animals in the cramped cages that I feel sick.
What is this world? How can you mistreat animals? And more importantly (in the case of the little baby syrian) how can you just throw them away?

I'm devastated.

Thanks love...I needed to know that I'm not alone on this one...xx

your far from alone. On a total whim i bought 2 boars in january when i bought my cage (was on the way to see rescue's) they were infested with mites and fungal. It was disgusting, i got my vet fee's paid and was giving vouchers, i bought food from the vouchers and refuse to go back in the place now. They really need to stop selling animals but so many people dont realise the number of piggies in rescue or dont want to take on a rescue one (not knowing its past history) so no wonder they still sell if there is a demand. So many people on her have had bad experiences with P@H so you not alone at all. xx

Not sure if you know, but some Jollyes stores do sell pets.

Oh!
I didn't know that, the Jollyes near me doesn't so that's how I came to that conclusion. It's a nice store though...I might go there today actually! :)

Our local Pet Shop does have Guinea pigs but they are usually rescued. Nearly all the animals they have in there is rescued. Our little pet shop is so good, Because i have a nut allergy I can't have peanuts around me. Soo. .. my pet shop take out all the nuts in my hamsters mix and put lot's of popcorn which they love. I did go in P@H Yesterday.. The animals look okay, I had a few problems with the Degus.. They loved the company of people. I think one gave birth because there was a lot of squeaking in the back and I think what was the mother kept looking back at them. The degus did have some food and water that was it. I don't know if they are aloud to chew on Plastic but they had a few plastic toys. Also the chinnies had a wired floor. Of course I don't know much about Chinchillas but a wired floor would hurt my feet. The guinea pigs had Veg which is very Suprising. They had lot's of Hammies in a tiny cage.. but they didn't look too old.. I think it's about 6 weeks when they become mature and need to be sep but usually the animals at pets at home go really quickly. Soo.. I guess my pets at home is a little below satafication. [I think thats how you spell it 98)]

Out of curiosity, did you report it? It's all very well everyone coming onto the forum and whinging about it but so many people complain about it and don't say anything to staff or management when they're there. You can even take it further by reporting to the council (they issue pet shop licences) or to head office but please do something rather than nothing.

You do, of course, have my apologies if you did do something about it.

Yes Daftscotlass I emailed them about it...and I did speak to one of the girls in there - like I said she couldn't offer any explanation and just seemed uninterested. I'm not bothered if they don't reply just as long as they do something about it. I'll go back to that specific one and have a look around in a week or so, but if it's not any better, I'll speak to the manager there.

I agree, we should speak out about it!

Vicky xx
