I have been doing a local search for guinea pigs, and I found a couple of listings in shelters. Far away (300-400 miles) but still available for adoption. One of the listings to the west said that the guinea pig was found in a cardboard box by a lake. One of the listings to the east was for one born at the shelter; his mom was left in a flowerpot by the owners when they moved away to a new house. I sure hope that was a mistake, you know, each one thought the other picked up the flowerpot and by the time they got to wherever they were going it was too late and they called someone to look for it. You know, they didn't have enough money to make a return trip? One can only hope. I can't see any excuse for the one in the box by the lake.

Anyway, I guess guinea pig abandonment happens everywhere.

Aww poor piggles..... I guess it happens everywhere .... I always wonder how many are not found though when one is found ..... do most get found ? or half of them ? or less ?

I probably shouldnt even think about it.... rolleyes

It is so heart breaking to hear about this. I think it is so cruel and if you loved your piggy you would never forget to collect them. You would go back for them right away if you had made the mistake of forgetting them

Thats terribly sad. I can understand that sometimes owners can't take responsibilities of their pet anymore.Couldn't they just take him to a rescue? Leaving them like that beside a lake is absolute cruelty!

And yeah, I agree with piggyfan that you couldn't possibly forget your pig and leave them behind if you loved them so much.
