i noticed last night that tia was no moving around much and seemed to be walking funny. then she stopped moving and just sat in same spot til i got up this morning.

took her to vets who did an ultrasound and said there was what looked enlarging of ovaries or kidneys. one side worse than other. they have asked if they could do an xray which i have agreed to and are going to call me back, i'm so frightened!

it's going to cost around £120 ish i think for the investigation and then there would be treatment on top so it's gonna be hard to find the money but i told the vet to keep me updated and think i will borrow some money from family to pay the bill.

i'm so frightened i'll lose her now. my dad died in may and i can't cope with this right now! i've been out and bought some treats some hay wreaths and herb bags to either console george her husband (neutered) if she has to be put down or for her on her return. i'm so sad :(

george hasn't said a word since i got him home he seems to be missing her already!

Awhun, hugs! I have fingers and toes crossed there is something simple and pain free they can do for her and that she makes a speedy recovery! x

So sorry that you are going through this horrible time. You've caught whatever it is early and are getting it investigated so you are doing everything you can for your little girl.
I hope results turn out positive and the vet can do something to help her. Sending healing vibes to your little one. x

i have just cleaned out the cage and i guess i took tia's smell away cos george is now running round shouting for her! it makes me feel so sad!

BIG HUG

These things always happen at the worst of times. I am thinking of you and Tia and am keeping my fingers firmly crossed!

good and bad news i got her back for the evening but she is back tomorrow am for a operation. she needs her ovaries removed as she has giant sists.

aww bless her, but didnt you do well acting so quickly.

Sending some vibes for Tia (beautiful name) and really hope the op is a success.

Everything crossed for you here, please let us know as soon as you can...

Does anyone know if I should separate Tia from george on her return until she starts healing?

I'm not a huge expert with regards to guineas but if you think it'll upset her more having her separated from him, maybe introduce them and keep a very close eye on them. Or side by side pens so they can still see/hear each other but you can keep any eye on what she's eating/drinking/pooping.

Lots of vibes for Tia x

It really depends on the interactions between the guineas. Patches had her ovaries removed for the same reason and I separated her for 2 weeks because her cage mate is hyper.
If you chose to separate them keep them as close as you can to each other. Divide the cage if you can so they can still talk to each other.

Think that is what i will do for a day or two so i can monitor food / water and poo / wee and then try them together and see if george is too rough with her as sometimes he does get rather excited and mounts her. he's been really good with her yesterday and today so i think he knows she's poorly

My Pickles is poorly at the moment and I asked the vet about whether she should be sperated or if she should stay with her beloved Fatman. The vet said if it is something contagious they should be seperate, which seemed stressful for her (being poorly and alone) and for him being without her, but obviously made sense. The vet said however having them in visual and talking distance will stop them feeling stressed so if possible keep them in the same room so they can have a chat and see each other. Pickles has improved recently so I've put her back in and the vet said this is fine as long as she has shown improvement! I didn't have two cages so I put pickles in a large wicker basket with towels and hay etc in (she was very poorly so couldn't have jumped out) and as soon as I thought she might be strong enough to do so I put her back with fatman! Hope this helps and Tia gets well soon xxxxxx

Please don't worry, my Noodles recently had the same thing happen and she came through very well, better than the boys from their neuters.

I left her with Whiskey (they have been together since babies) but took them out of the main herd - they were living with 3 other girls and a neutered boar. While she is recovering brilliantly we have decided not to reintroduce them as the boar is rather large, so when he gets excited it is rather, er, ground shaking, and the three girls are all quite young and playful, so think it will be better for her and Whisks who also has some health issues.

If your boy is calm and quiet I would leave them together, Whiskey even went to the vets with Noodles and spent the day wheeking and getting fed grass while Noods was being chopped up, my vet put Noods straight back in with Whiskey and said she woke up much faster having her friend there to help her. Whiskey is normally a bit hyper and silly but she calmed down a lot and really helped Noods get better.

Good luck with Tia, I really hope she is ok x

Crossing everything for Tia - hope all goes well and she has a speedy recovery.
x

I am thinking of you all and wishing you so much luck and love. She will recover and soon be fit and healthy.

Thanks everyone will play it by ear i think, gonna be a busy day tomorrow what with preparing the cage for her return, work, tia's operation and then getting her home again (hopefully in one piece) crossing my fingers as up until now she has seemed to be in good health so i'm hoping that'll get her through her op.

Both the boys i have are neutered and they were fine afterwards and I had no problems with them other than having to change bedding to towels etc.. they were no different when they came home (although george did have a nibble at his stitches which worries me incase he starts on tias @)

Thanks again for all your lovely messages x

sorry to say Tia had to be PTS when they opened her up she had ovarian cists, a large tumour and her guts were not working properly anymore. they said she would only last a few days to weeks should they wake her back up and it was best thing for her. i am now gutted for her husband george who is so quiet now!

Oh no, how sad. So sorry for you and George. (((((hugs)))))

I am so sorry for your loss. Poor George too. I really hope you can find him a friend soon although I know that is painful for you to think of right now.

i do really want a new wife for him but not sure there are many rescues round here anymore but i am on the lookout for a scrumptious girl good enough for my george :))

Oh no I'm so sorry about Tia. I know how heartbreaking it can be. I hope you find a lovely little girl, I too am on the lookout for a girlie as well x

Well if there are no rescues or rspca then often people on here have piggies that need homes. Maybe you could post an ad. I feel for poor George.

i have posted in the wanted section. we do have rspca but they don't have guineas as i've tried them before when i got tia and amy. sadly my other pair won't mix with george as the boys had a fight and that was why i had to get 2 girls originally. blackpool rspca refused to rehome to me as too far for home visit :(
