I took Connie back to the vets today as she is squeaking and lifting her bum up when she goes to the toilet. She has been on baytril for 12 days and it ran out this morning so he has given her another course. He is sending her wee sample off today to see if it has crystals or anything in it :( He has felt her tummy and bladder on many occasions and can not feel anything. He said that she doesn't have a kidney stone but she could have bladder stones :( He will have the results back this evening or tomorrow morning. I am just so worried about her. Apart from a stubborn UTI or bladder stones, what else could it be? xx

i'm not sure. but me and sonny are sending our get well vibes and we're both very worried about poor connie. we're sending our love to you both and eliza of course xxxxxxxxx

It could be that the Baytil is not the antibiotic appropriate for this infection. Different antibiotics are succesful against different infections. and resistance could be a problem. Give it a week and if no improvement go back and ask for a different AB

I dont see how your vet can tell if she has stones by just feeling, she needs an scan. Also, septrin is the best antibiotic for a URI and as the baytril hasn't worked, he should have tried this I think :( I don't blame you for being worried. Is it possible to go back and see a different vet?

What dosage of baytril is she on?

Septrin is the best antibiotic for urinary infections. My own pig had a very stubborn UTI and it was only after a course of Septrin that it cleared up, Baytril would not touch it.

That isn't a strong enough dose in my opinion. Sunny wasn't big but tolerated double that very well.

I strongly suggest you go back to your vet and ask him for septrin. I am not sure about dosage for that but he should weigh her and give dosage according to how much she weighs.

I would probably suggest changing the antibiotic because if she was going to respond to baytril, I'm sure she probably would have by now. Hope the tests show nothing horrible and I hope things get better for little Connie soon xx

An x-ray would be the next step to see if there is any stones/grit/sludge in her bladder (your vet could determine the sludge/grit by collecting a wee sample in a syringe and standing it upside down for a couple of hours, if there is any grit/sludge, it will settle at the bottom of the syringe) If the xray is clear then i would get her onto septrin as this is better for UTI's I hope everything goes ok for little connie :)

Definitely try and get some septrin. I was told Baytril works best on aerobic bacteria, ones that need oxygen so it works well for respiratory problems etc. Septrin works on anaerobes, bacteria that don't need oxygen and live in places like the bladder. It's a lot less harsh on the gut than baytril too.
