I am looking after my friends guinea pigs while she is on holiday and then is looking after ours while we go away - unfortunatly we overlap by 24 hours - is this likely to be a problem ? (have tried to find someone else to go in without success)

The plan is that I will double feed hay and dried food lat thing before I go and give them all freash water and a large portion of veggies (not double and the favourites so I know there won't be any waste)

I wondered if it was worth getting a couple of the dried food snacks to leave with them - have seen the dried sweetcorn cobs or something like this - http://www.petsathome.com/shop/crispy-crunchy-tasty-fruit-cup-250g-by-quiko-91205. I know lots of them have seeds which should be avoided but is there anything else I should avoid in them ?

Thanks

Andrea

It's best to avoid anything with seeds - piggies teeth are designed to graze and not crush seed husks. Anything that is stuck together usually contains glucose syrup and/or honey so is not for piggies at all (no matter what it says on the packet). The same goes for the yoghurt drops - bleurgh!

The best way to ensure they are happily munching away is to give loads of hay, giving extra veg can be a problem as they will scoff it all in one go and they can then get the squits and without anyone there to deal with it, it can be a disaster.

Attached the water bottles very firmly top and bottom of the bottles, add extra bottles too. Large pile of hay plus extra in the hay racks, paper bags stuffed with treat hay. For an extra treat and to ensure they have the right food you could add Burgess food cubes, they have enough food and hay for a pig over 48hrs. I use them as an extra enrichment in their cage in addition to the normal feed an hay.

Thanks everyone will get some of the burgess cubes. Didn't like the look of lots of the 'treats' but wondered if they may be ok for a one off.

What about the dried sweetcorn - is there any problems with them ?
