Today I noticed my guinea pig has something dried in his fur right under his mouth. Is this a concern? Is it a sign he's sick? Need help fast.

I thought I noticed he had a runny nose a few days ago but after checking him again and again I have really seem anything in his nose or eyes but this doesn't mean I'm just not missing it.

Hello

If your pig has a runny nose it can a sign of URI or eye problem, if it is still wet I would recommend a visit to a cavy savvy vet to check his lungs etc.

As for the stuff under his chin - it could be any number of things. A scab from a skin problem, an abscess, sebasceous cyst, food stuck, the most likely cause is boar glue (part of the ejaculate) and often found on rude boys' chins.

It seemed like drool or something, it isn't there today and as far as his nose and eyes they seem ok. Just a slight amout of drainage occationally in one side.

Drooling/salivation is a sign of dental problems. Are your weighing your piggie regurarly? Any weightloss and this sign of drooling is a sure sign of dental problems. I would pop him to the vets for a health check.

Any nasal discharge its likely he has an upper respiratory tract infection (URI) too. They may be unrelated problems .

I haven't noticed anymore drool. His teeth look good. Hes eating normally and from what I can tell weights the same.

The best way to tell if he weights the same is to weight him weekly. This is part of keeping your pig happy and healthy.
