Apologies if this question has been asked before but I wonder if anyone can help me?
We have 2 guinea pigs about 9 months old and I put them out today and noticed that 1 of them has 2 red sores on the back of his legs. Throughout the Summer I have put them in their run every day and now even as it is getting colder I am putting them out for most of the day. They have a little box in the run which they can go in which I have put hay in - but is the fact that they are spending so much time outside on wet grass causing these sore back legs?
Also in their hutch I would say that I clean it out every other day so it is never that damp in there.
My questions are does anyone know what is causing these sores, what should I do now - go to the Vet or just apply some cream and in the winter how much time should they spend outside - and does it matter if some days they don't go out and just stay in their hutch.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nicky

Some would say on here not to put them out to grass if the ground is damp at all, as they can chill easily, which can cause chest infections. It could be worth you having a look at www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk to see if they have any cream that might help with the sores.

You might want to read also the link on cold weather care for guineas on this forum.:) The link was written by Nutmeg.

You are definitely right! I have bought some cream and inspired by this forum - have made them an indoor run!

Hope the cream helps, I am sure they will love the indoor run:). My guinea's are indoor guineas anyway, but they won't be out in their run now until next year, Brrrr, toooo cold.:)) Mine are spoilt, they have snuggle safes over night when the weather gets colder, even in our front room it gets chilly over night without the heating on.
