Hi everyone!
:)p
Hope you can give me some advice. I noticed last night that Browny was squinting quite a lot but the eye looked normal and I couldn't see any hay poking out. This morning it is the same but there seems to be a blue patch at the top of his eye - doesn't cover the whole eye though! Is this a hay poke? As it's Sunday I can't get to the vets - what should I do? I am going to take him first thing tomorrow morning! Hope that won't be too late!

Any advice?

Thanks so much!:^-

The eye has ulcerated by now; it looks like it an eye poke or scratch of some sort. Please see a vet as soon as you can so he can check on the nature of the injury. Thankfully, eye injuries tend to heal quickly with the appropriate treatment.

If you find it difficult to get any ointment or drops into the sore eye, sit Browny on your lap and let him become absorbed in scoffing on some favourite food. It is generally much easier that way, especially as long as the eye is painful. Piggies don't multitask.

Is there anything I can do till I get him to the vets in the morning? Thanks!

When I had to give one of my guineas eye ointment I wrapped him gently in a towel and that did the trick. It was easier than I expected to apply the ointment. I think after the first couple of times , he realised it was helping him. Good luck.

Thank you two for your advice - just back from the vet and he had poked himself in the eye and had a wee ulcer. He's all good and I'll be using your tips for applying the medication later! Thanks again! :)

As it is only a minor injury, his eye should be as good as new within a week to ten days!
