Have just got back from the vet with Colleen. Noticed that she was closing one of her eyes last night and when we looked that it was cloudy. The vet put some dilating drops in and said that she has an ulcer probably caused by a hay poke. The vet has given her a painkilling injection and some clinagel cream to use 3x a day (when she had a hay poke previously she had a different cream). She's eating and seems okay in herself. Is there anything we can give her if she seems in pain? The problem at the moment is keeping Honey away from it, she keeps going over to Col's eye and looks like she's licking at it. I don't want to separate them if at all possible but is this something we should be thinking about?

We're back to the vet on Thursday when the vet said hopefully the cloudiness will have cleared and we'll get a better idea of how her eye is. Is there anything else we should be doing for her because I hate the thought that she might be in pain?

Thankfully, eye infections have a habit of clearing nearly as quickly as they come on.

If you have a problem with your other girl licking it off, you may want to separate them for a bit (if you can) after you have applied the gel, so it can be absorbed.

I have found it very useful to distract the piggy with a bowl of its favourite food on my knees while applying the gel, especially during the first one or two days when the eye is very tender and it can be difficult to the gel into the eye. Piggies tend to forget about their bodies when they are engrossed in stuffing themselves!

Don't worry, Colleen will soon be as good as new!

Yeah definately try and distract her where possible. I had to use eye drops on my piggie for a while and I found the other sow was licking it alot too. The vet advised me that, after applying the drops, keep her on my lap for 15-20 minutes and away from the other piggie as after this period of time, the drops would've been absorbed so it doesn't matter so much if the other piggie licks her eye.

Hope that is of some use, hope she gets better!
