Seriously stressed out at the moment. I have had a severe ear infection for a few days which meant I could hardly walk straight so wasn't getting the piggies out as much. They were getting plenty of cuddles and care from everyone else though so I thought it was ok. Unfortunately no one else health checks them the way I do as a neurotic piggy Mummy!

It is the first morning I felt safe enough to try to get them out today so I had some nice snuggles. But when I had Nacho out I noticed that there is a small sore on his back foot and it looks swollen. I had to call my friend to come round and help me soak and clean it because I didn't want to walk to far carrying him, with me being so off balance. It doesn't seem to bother him much, he's not as bouncy as usual but it looks horrible. Small but horrible. Just had a bit of a go at my Mum on the phone who said she noticed his foot was a bit red but didn't tell me because she didn't think it was anything bad. Urgh!

Have booked a vets appointment for this afternoon but is there anything I can do at home to help him till then?

I'm pretty sure it's bumblefoot from the research I've done. Can this sort of thing really come up in the week I've been ill? The piggies are cleaned out regularly and the others are fine so I can't understand why he's got it.

I feel like such a bad Mummy right now :(

You can bathe the foot in a diluted Hibiscrub solution if you have any?

Does he have a history of any of the following?:

Heart condition or circulatory problems
Systemic fungal problems

What does his diet consist of? is he on a dry food that has a lot of grains?

Traditionally it has been thought that bumbelfoot can be caused by damp bedding etc, but I have seen research to imply that it is more likely a secondary condition.

Nigel had bumblefoot but it was linked to his heart condition and his feet were soaked in Hibiscrub twice a day and he was given pain relief when needed. I have since become aware of a great product for treating bumblefoot that is available from Amazon but would need to look it up should you need it. See what the vet says first.

No known condition. Never been ill before. He is on P@H nuggets.

He's currently popcorning for veggies which is good. I'll just have to see what the vet says

I'm just trying to find a reason for him to have it

Apparently I was overreacting a little! :)

It is very early stages of bumblefoot. I've got him on a course of baytril and been advised to get some Happy Soles cream from Gorgeous Guineas. The vet said he has seen good results using it quite a long while ago in another case. Hope it's still available! Will look it up and send off for it tomorrow.

Thanks for all the advice

I noticed this morning Nacho was quite intensely licking/cleaning/biting the bad foot. Any idea why this might be and if there is anything I can do to help him or get it to stop bothering him?

He took his meds like a champ this morning. And when I say like a champ I mean bracing his front paws on the syringe to push it away and squeaking the place down! :)

The swelling is going down on his foot and it doesn't look as bad as it did now but he still keeps licking and biting it. I'm hoping that he'll stop doing it soon because I don't want him making it worse again

Hi there, another possibility could be a small foot pad spur, that has been accidentally pulled off,
This happen to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, it looked really nasty, but it healed within a couple of days.
