The girls I got yesterday look like they have really sore feet. Bella was walking funny today so I picked her up and found these things on her feet. I checked the others and they all have them. They're brown growths all over their toes and the pads on their feet. They look horrible. We are going to the vets to see what's going on but does anybody know what they are? Obviously causing them pain as they are biting and kicking out if I touch their feet. :(

Maybe spurs? http://www.guinealynx.info/feet.html#spurs - I wouldn't try to remove them as guinea lynx said though. A vet will be able to confirm.

Cookie has spurs on one foot, they cause her no issues however.

Let us know what the vet says.

Just worried that they are uncomfortable as they are on the ends of their toes and all over their feet. Misty has just 3 but Bella has 12 including a big one on the end of her toe that is making her drag her foot. Oh yeah, I wouldn't touch them myself, scared of hurting them.

It is actually stuck to the nail or just the skin? It does look like a spur but it if it extends over the nail area it could be something like a bacterial infection. But does look like a normal spur to me? hope all goes ok with the vet.

To me it looks like a large spur- they can be trimmed or filed back. Some pigs are prone to them. One of mine gets them all the time, the other has never had one. I can see how that one that is big enough to interfere with the nail could lead to a sore foot. Good luck with the vet appointment, and hope it's a simple fix!

Just out of curiosity, for those whose piggies have spurs, what colour are your piggies' feet? I have one brindle piggie with dark (almost black) feet and she has never had a spur in her 4 years, and I have had two other piggies with pink feet who both had spurs. All living in the same environment. I'm just curious if the pink-footed piggies have sensitive skin, or if it's just coincidence with my (admittedly small) sample size.

If they are spurs, the vet will easily sort them and probably show you how to keep them under control. Nearly all our piggies suffer with spurs, both pink and black feet. I trim them when they get long enough to snip with small fingernail scissors.

really pleased. I managed to cut through some of them enough that her toes on her front foot are now seperate and not just one clump stuck together. She is walking better but it took 3 hours with lettuce breaks inbetween :)) Definitely a vet job to get rid of them properly and she still has the ones on her skin, just wanted to try and help her. They are all over the feet and nails and hanging over the ends of the toes. Not sure about the colour, all 3 girls are different colours and have them.

Well done, do you have any gorgeous guinea foot balm? we use this on our piggies feet to try and help moisturise the rough patches.

We have some news. Their feet problems are spurs which the vet trimmed and rock hard poo which she managed to pull off. I guess they just havent had foot care for a long time! Misty has a lump on her side which the vet took a biopsy of as she said it is unusual for a lump to be hard and swollen. Waiting for results by phone x

I am glad all their feet are okay now. Good luck with Misty's lump. Fingers crossed it is a fatty lump and nothing serious.

I am so sorry. My Peronel had a tumour so I know how you are feeling. It may be nothing serious and she will have a long and happy life.

Sorry to hear this, big hugs to you and love to Misty x
