Following on from my thread about finding lice, I have now found a sore on Freya's rump. I was just wondering if this was from the lice or could it be a bite, and could I treat it with things like sudocrem or savlon?
I have a picture of the sore, its only small and is on the lower part of her bum.

It is too hard to tell from the picture I'm afraid, could be a bite, mites or fungal from what I can see. Can you list all the symptoms here so I can try to determine the most likely cause, thus treatment? It helps to know all the symptoms while looking at the pic. :)

Thanks Laura :)
Well it doesn't seem to bother her unless I touch it. I haven't noticed her scratching that area either. They have both been scratching a bit, but since I shampooed them for the lice I haven't noticed it so much (I'm going to go and get some Advantage today to treat the lice properly). I have been putting them out with my friends 3 guinea pigs during the day, thats why I thought it may have been a bite, but they seem to get on really well and I haven't seen Freya have any problems with them.
The sore itself is about 8mm long and 5mm wide, its looking a bit better today, but there seems to be a bit of hair loss around it (only minimal), its a bit red around the outside and a sort of yellowy colour in the middle, if I squeeze no pus comes out though. I have just noticed a few more small scabs in that area though, so may have to take a trip to the vets as its possibly mites :(.
Thanks for any advice :).

I had a pig who had a bit of fungal. It started with a small scab on her cheek and a bit of fungal ear. A sore (similar to the one you describe) appeared on her back and it turned in to a scab. I used Daktarin Gold twice a day on the scabs and she was fungal free within 2 weeks. However, I can not say for sure if Freya has fungal or mites but I just thought I would tell you my experience.

I took my girl to the vets as I needed to register her there anyway and my vet turned the lights off and shone an ultraviolet light on the effected area to determine if it was fungal.

I need to register my guinea pigs at a vets too so I might take her down at one point. I don't really know of any piggy savvy vets in my area though, as I don't have my own transport so can't get to the one that's recommended on this site :{
